  • He settled himself on the other edge of her bed, giving her a nod to indicate that yes, this was why he had brought them here. He figured it would be best to let them know now instead of trying to hide it as they saw Lacey so much they'd figure it out when they bought her ring. Eliza made a big fuss over Lacey, handing over the magazines she had brought until finally she and Robert pulled up chairs on the same side of the bed that Ryan sat on - as if they were an audience. • Robert highly expected to hear that they were getting back together- both he and eliza had pretty much guessed as much last night when Ryan came home after visiting hours in such a good mood, and seeing the pair of them now slo close and holding hands- it was plain to see. // Lacey watched Ryan as he spoke, biting gently at her lower lip as she tried to hold back her excited grin. She looked to Eliza and Robert affectionately before she finally spoke "Ryan and I talked a lot about things last night... about us getting back together and how we felt and everything... and ...well.... • She had suspected something as well - Ryan was spending as much time as he could, between classes and keeping an eye out for her family, at the hospital - the nurses all knew him by name - he knew about their families and their homes, he had been there that much... something was obviously happening beyond friendship. She raised a brow, checking the glow that Lacey assumed and shook her head - she knew.. "I've decided to ask Lacey to marry me." He was near bursting with pride, and gave her hand a squeeze, looking down at Lacey for a moment and meeting her eyes as he spoke before he finally drew his gaze back to his parents. • Lacey grinned softly before turning her gaze back to his parents- primarily Eliza- as it was her approval and affection she cared for much more than Roberts "I know I'm young... But I'm... we're both... really sure about this. And its almost eight months until I turn eighteen so we'll have some time to think it through and such..." Not that there was- in her mind- anything to think through- she was just trying to prove that they were being rational.// Robert cocked a brow sharply at that, watching his son a long moment before looking to his wife- hoping she would have some wise words to reason witht hem. It wasn;t that he didn;t like Lacey- he was secretly very fond of the girl and found her to be a positive influence in his sons life- but she was seventeen- and their son was only 20.   • She had felt guilty about that for a long time- but Eliza had counselled her long and hard about it and had managed to convince her that Ryan's downfalls hadn't been her fault. She glanced up at him and smirked a little, it was a relief having told his parents at least- she felt better about things now- and everything seemed a little more real. She bit her lower lip as she grinned softly, her eyes flashing excitedly at his before she looked back to Ryans parents "Thanks." // Rober watched his wife faulter and knew she at least agreed with him over the age and the status of their relationship thing. He took her lead and cleared his throat before nodding "Indeed... congratulations." Though it wasn;t as convincing as his wifes he had said it none the less. His gaze shifted to his son and he caught his eye, tipping his head to the door a moment, motioning to Ryan that he wanted a word before excusing himself and heading out into the corridor, out of earshot. • He looked reassuringly to Lacey, gave her hand another squeeze and then rose from the edge of the bed to follow his father - he was pretty sure he knew what was coming here, but he wasn't a stupid kid... he knew what he was doing... As soon as Ryan had left, she swooped in, taking his place on Lacey's bed and taking up her hand for a squeeze as well. • Robert paced a little as he waited for his son to appear, his finger and thumb pressing at the bridge of his nose a moment before Ryan appeared and he regarded his son with a slight smile. "I know you wanted to get her back... and that you've been pretty miserable... But do you think it was such a good idea to make such a .... life changing jesture?" He spoke quietly- and not unkindly... he realised his son wasn;t a child anymore and wanted to counsel him- not lecture him.//Laceys smile lessened a little as she watched Ryans father and then Ryan dissappear, looking to Eliza with a soft smile as she sat down near her "Why do you think we werent talking? It was too hard... because we love each other so much and being apart is heartwrenching. • He was quiet a moment, composing himself, before he spoke. "That's why we've left lots of time until the wedding date... we're not even going to think about setting a date for another eight months... to get back into the swing of our relationship. Dad, I've known for a year now that I wanted to marry her." He watched his father - usually ruthless and disapproving when it came to these things, but knew that Lacey was too close to his heart for him to behave that way right now. She listened to the girl smiling - and nodded as she listened, "I understand... if you don't feel like it's going to be too intrusive, I'd like you guys to go see a pre marriage counsellor... not because you have any problems, but because it's a good way to think about the things that you need to know about each other before you're married and realize you might have a problem... what do you think?"   • "It's not really for problems, it's just sorta... things to make you think, and to talk about how you'll live together as a couple... it's really beneficial... don't worry - a lot of newly weds or people planning to get married like to go and talk with someone else... gives them some perspective." She smiled gently at the girl to reassure her that she wasn't dooming their marriage before it even happened. "But you should know I'm so glad that you're gonna be a part of my family for real." She had no problem in the councelling, it was probably a good idea- the last thing she wanted to do was realise they'd rushed and not thought everything through. He cocked a brow at his son- he knew he had a savings account that he and his wife had been putting money into since before he was born- but Robert hoped that was for a house- one they would need if they intended getting married anytime soon. • She patted the girl's shoulder encouragingly. "So, have you already started to imagine what you want for a wedding?" Of course they would pick up the tab as she was almost certain that Lacey's family couldn't, and she loved helping out with weddings. "If we're not careful, we'll have the whole shebang planned before you even set a date!" He frowned listening to his father and his brows shot up as his father handed him the cheque. "Dad... I... we'll figure out something else... you don't need to do this..." Of course his father had put up more than this for his tuition this year but as he hadn't seen the cheque, he didn't think so much of it. Robert may be a hard faced business man- but Lacey had won all their hearts and he'd much prefer to have her as a daughter in law than some stuck up little brat like Hailey Bates. • He was a little bit surprised still, shellshocked maybe, but folded the cheque up and put it safely into his pocket, shaking his head. "Thank you... " He would be able to get Lacey something a bit more.. luxurious than he had initially planned and when he really thought about it, he was excited - though he knew she wouldn't really care whether the ring cost five dollars or five thousand. // She laughed a little bit and patted the girl's hand. "You're right, I don't think he'd settle for getting married in city hall.." not the way he liked to lavish this girl with presents and things of that sort - he had been determined, from the getgo, it seemed, to allow her to experience and have the things that she would eventually have as his wife. • `Robert nodded and clapped his son on the shoulder in an affectionate gesture, guiding him back towards the room Lacey was in. He headed over to Lacey and pressed a kiss to her cheek- the first time he'd ever done such a thing- but he supposed she was almost family now.... "I have to get back to work... but congratulations... and its good to see you looking brighter." • She nodded to her husband and then rose, opting to catch a ride back to the house with him. "I've got the vet coming to check out Ruby - she's a touch sore today... so I'd best be going with you." She took her husband's arm, looking back at Lacey and offering her a smile. "You're a lucky man, Ryan." Her eyes then flickered up to her son's and she nodded. "Congratulations to the both of you." He couldn't help but feel relieved when they finally left, after he'd given his mother a hug and kiss and seen them to the door. He would have to get a job, he supposed - though he could be more than comfortable with the family's money, he felt obligated to at least try.. "I'm sure we could find some property close to home... or with a little barn..." A hobby farm could always be fun. "It's scary, facing being a grown up." But he knew he was ready for it. • She grinned a little at that and watched Ryan a moment, her thumb brushing gently over his knuckles as she watched him, a smile settled on her lips "You know that barn down by the entrance to the trails that you took all those photographs of? " It was a beautiful old barn but the roof had collapsed and the brick work was crumbling a little "I always thought that was a beautiful little spot for a house... do you think your parents would sell us the land? We could do the house up ourselves... " It was a beautiful little spot... in a little hollow of the tree's in the woods, the stream running through the front patch of land and forgotten roses climbing the walls of the old bricks. • He nodded thoughtfully as he imagined the house, and what it would be like once it was finished, in that spot, with them living in it, the homey feeling it would get - certainly nothing like the house that he lived in with his parents now but they could make it wonderful... the plus side was also that they could stay in the big house while they were working on the new house. And I could tidy up the land around it and make it a nice little garden... with roses and lillies and stuff... and we could build a stone patio type thing to sit out and eat on in the summer... what do you think?" once she was qualified as a vet she would bring in plenty of money and he could focus on his photography- he could even set himself up a business if he wanted "And we can make you a darkroom and such... or a work shop..." • He couldn't help but smile at her enthusiasm and he hadn't even spoken to his parents about it yet - though he was sure he could convince them - his father was always complaining that it was an eyesore but his mother had insisted on leaving it there - she would be thrilled to see it as a little cottage. He reached out for her hand again, if they didn't have to wait until she was 18, he would have married her right then to get their plans on the road.
