Author: Marithura & Marthur on Sarinor, flit flocks
Subject: Grief...and concern
In reply to: Hollis 's message, "- Gaze -" on 17:49:00 09/12/02 Thu

Sarinor started as the eyes of the woman met his. He -heard- her!! He had -never- heard another before...only his rider! He had -spoken- to others before, but it had always been an effort, not this automatic knowledge of another's thoughts!! He listened closer, and heard the pain and sorrow, and slight trace of envy, in the woman's heart. This -one- knew Heltia? Heltia was -lost?-

I feel your grief, dear lady. My rider -also- grieves. The child she bears is all that remains of her weyrmate...and mine. Sarinor's tone was filled with infinite sadness, but more, with a very personal feeling of loss. It was not his rider alone who had lost a mate. Now, he no longer felt the need for a mate, and he was satisfied, for he wanted no other.

My dear red, I do not believe she wishes our company just now. I think we should leave. Thura's eyes filled as she turned her head away. It was so -hard- for her to come out of seclusion...and this one seemed to still wish it for herself. Marthur, seeing this, bowed his head sadly and slipped an arm around her. He sighed heavily. This was not good. His twin -needed- to be with others, and soon! She had not told him as much, but he had grown up with a midwife, and he knew it was not going well with her. She needed care, and he had not even apprenticed to the Healer Hall. He had a good amount of basic healing knowledge, but not enough for -this!-

As if on cue, Thura tensed under his arm, trying vainly not to flinch as a wave of pain swept over her. He saw her hold her arm across her stomach, trying to ease the pain. "I knew it," he said softly, "you've done too much today. You -must- lie down for a while...can you get comfortable over by the fire?"

"I-I think so...and what less could I have done? We are not natives, to take a ship everywhere! I wouldn't want to anyway...it's too...alien to me." She turned back toward the fire, leaning on her brother's arm for support. The child within appeared to be distressed as well, since from a sound sleep the little one had begun to kick and wiggle with a vengeance, making it even harder for her to walk straight.

Marthur turned to the red Kilven, looking on anxiously. Sarinor, can you come over here by the fire and make a bed for your rider? She needs to rest now...and the warmth will do all of you some good."

Sarinor whuffed. Of course...I feel her pain, and the little one is distressing her too. It is gratifying for her to have someone who cares so much... Even the Kilven could not finish such a statement...it was too laden with pain for him as well. He settled down near the fire, curling up into a C shape, offering his One a headrest on his forearm, and a place to put her feet up across his hind leg. Once she was settled, he wrapped his tail around her comfortingly. The flock of flits, who had been fluttering around crooning anxiously through it all, now divided into two groups...one of each color to curl up on and around Sarinor and Thura, the others to coax Marthur into sitting nearby so that they might rest with him. All were soon settled, prepared for the seemingly inevitable awkward silence to last the night.
