Subject: Small Yorkies - Beware of owls, hawks, eagles, etc.

I am writing to warn owners of smaller Yorkies about the potential dangers of owls, hawks, eagles, etc. attacking a small yorkie.

I bought my husband a Yorkie for his birthday in December 2001. One evening after dark we let Yoshi out to go to the bathroom. He was about 4 months old at the time and was 3.2 pounds. When we opened the door to let him in, we were
blown away to discover he was being attacked by an owl. We rushed him to the animal emergency room and were in and out of several animal hospitals. He was left paralyzed and unable to control his bodily functions. We went to far as to take him to an animal neurologist to see if there was any surgery that would be helpful. There was not. Yoshi was subsequently put to sleep.

We consider ourselves to live in a housing development in the suburbs of a city, not what we would consider to be "the country". We had no idea this was a potential
danger. I have since told the owl attack story to a number of people around our area. I believe it is important for owners of smaller puppy(ies)/dog(s) to be aware of this potential danger which might then allow them to be more cautious.

I have been amazed to hear several similar owl, hawk, eagle attack stories from others, once I started sharing my story with them. I really haven't seen warnings about
this on the internet. Many of the stories told to by others were about birds of prey simply picking up a puppy and carrying it off, never to be seen again. It made me
wonder about how many stories a "lost puppy", were really a result of a bird carrying it off, only that the owner never actually knew that is what happened.

Please share this story with others you know who own very small puppy(ies)/dog(s) in order to increase awareness
of this danger, and to potentially save others from going through the same tragic experience we did. Owners of very small dogs might prefer to house train such dogs in a
litter type box, wee pads or alternatively have a small fenced in area outside which (INCLUDES THE TOP BEING COMPLETELY FENCED OVER OR ENCLOSED AS WELL).
