I believe what the author, "mod", is saying is that in the long run, incentive based programs do not accomplish what they set out to do. In other words, if we teach children that they will receive a reward every time they do something, there is no motivation for them to do such an activity on their own. It is not reasonable for us to teach our children that they will receive a prize every time they do something that they should. Many experts agree on this. Also, I wonder what the out cry from employees at your company would be like if management decided to take away the incentives? I suspect there would be some very disgruntled, less motivated, employees showing up for work. By the way, shouldn't the employees already be giving their absolute 100% without the promise of an incentive? It's the same thing with school age children.
