I don't believe it's a 'media push' - when people talk about big media it's worth remembering that at the bottom line all they care about is making money. Politics, belief, etc etc etc are irrelevant, the question is - does it sell? That's all media companies care about. This is a sign that our societies are becoming increasingly liberal and open, as the majority of people now expect this to be featured in their TV and radio as it's something they encounter in their day to day lives.

As I've argued before on here this is a good thing. As our societies become more liberal and accepting, gay people are able to be out without judgment. Surely it is better for gay people to be with gay people, straight people with straight people, and everyone happy, instead of a gay person hiding in misery with a straight person who is also miserable? Yes this is likely to cause more people to come to this place and go through the pain we go through - but pain PASSES. Misery can last a lifetime, in unknowing blandness and unhappiness.

The ultimate solution to the problem which brings us all here is for gay people to not feel ashamed of themselves, weird, unusual etc etc and to not enter a MOM. To remove the need for a 'beard', to remove the need to 'fit in'. It'll take time, but that's the direction we're going and we will all be happier as a result.
