hi Ashot,
thank you for answering. i took it apart this morning. i have parts and screws everywhere. i finally found the cmos .....it's soldered to the mother board under the display area behind the card slots. it says panasonic 1220...about the only thing i can see to do is to cut it loose and solder a new one to the tabs left on the mother board. would you happen to know if this problem would cause the unit to shut down while in use ? do i have any options besides cutting the battery out :( ..... the processor i think is a mobile one. the socket slides back and forth to hold it. the prosseor looks like a silver square surrounded by a black board with the pins on it. it looks to have the same pin layout as a regular pentium. any advice on which processor i might be able to use for an upgrade( if i can get it going again) thanks Max ....

ps....... i would be glad to help anyone who can't get their vibrant apart now that i have done it.
