It's the business of the future for sure!! My QM who is an old RN just finished a case where she provided respite for a husband whose wife has Alzheimers so he could go golfing 2/week.   • I asked about the Granny Nanny scheme which sounded just what I need to have a break from my DH who has dementia, not badly enough to go into a home but, as he is also an invalid, can't be left alone for long periods. The result? It would cost me $6720. for a two week break! Who can afford that these days. Sadly, in America its all about money. If I sound bitter Im sorry but in England I used to do home visiting to relieve caregivers along with many others in Hospice at Home, for nothing. Apart from having some help from one or two really kind friends I am having to pay over the top for everything.     • Kirsty thats dreadful. my sisters mother in law is very similar to your DH and she is regularly taken in for two week stays in hospital (a special ward) free of charge so that the family can get respite. When she's home they have carers calling every morning and evening to help with washing and medication etc, also free. I can't believe they don't have anything similar over there.   • Happy Halloween!! My ultimate favorite holiday. More decorations for this day than any other in the house. My DH gave me flowers for our anniversary and the card said "I love you and Halloween more each day" if that's any indication.   • We had to dish out a bit of Halloween punishment this morning. Went into my DD's room this morning and found her with sticky evidence all around her mouth. When asked what it was she tried very hard to convince me that her teacher had put it there yesterday. Finally got her to admit she had snuck out of her room and gotten into her candy bucket. She stashed the wrappers between her bed and dresser. I'll swear she must have eaten 15 or 20 pieces of candy during the night. Her punishment was that she didn't get to wear her costume to daycare today. The teachers were falling over laughing that the fact that she tried to blame it on them.   • I am sooo disappointed. We had an all time low 7...SEVEN...trick-or-treaters. I was bummed. This doesn't, of course count the son of my DH's best friend. They showed up to veg and the kid (about 11 yo) walks in and says "so, you have candy?" I looked at him and said "I don't see a costume." I ended up giving him one piece of candy after he described the costume he was going to wear. I did have one pint-sized Obama and a pint-sized McCain together. It was so funny, after I gave them their candy the Obama kid says "thanks for spreading the wealth!" Coming home and playing through my CDs I couldn't believe how many songs they actually sang.     • I'm a long time GBS fan. I first saw them about 15 years ago at a small pub in Prince Edward Island, when they were just "babies". My sister's first job after graduating with a journalism degree was for a small paper in St. John's, Newfoundland and Bob Hallet was her editor. She said he is a really great guy and when he wasn't at the paper he was anywhere else playing one of the multitude of intruments that he plays. Did he sing at your concert? He doesn't very much, but for an encore at one of their concerts he sang Recruiting Sergeant (he wrote it but Sean sings it on the cd) and the crowd went wild. Their shows are not to missed!
