I can see where the usefulness of some of the dog sport training and competition comes in to assessing a dog prior to breeding, but I'm not sure breeding FOR dog sport dogs is necessary what I'm looking for. I have no experience of dog sports but from what I see and read, the dogs seem to need higher levels of drive to succeed at the top echelon than perhaps would make them a good all round family/companion dog. Maybe I'm wrong there and I do stand to be corrected by those who know better than I.
I think the training for some of the sports is excellent though and does put a lot of tools in the box for even non-aspirational owners. It seems, a good dog sport dog needs to be everything a Boerboel should be and more and it's that bit more that worries me for the non-competitive or purely family dog owners if we breed towards a top class sport dog. You do tend to get a range within most litters and it is nice that the drivier pups have an outlet for their talents, but I'm hesitant about putting very driven dogs to other very driven dogs in a breeding program for fear of going over the top.
