Chapter 1
"Hey" his voice was deep and smooth and made Terina melt the second words tumbled out of his mouth, it barely mattered what they were. She turned her head up to give him a kiss.
Stevie: "How was calculus?" as he sat down on the uncomfortable cafeteria bench beside her. He didn't bother to look if anyone was already sitting there. Wherever he went everyone stayed out of his way.
Terina shrugged and rested her head on his broad shoulder.
Terina: "Oh you know, same ole same ole"
Stevie(absently): "Yeah, right. Yo, Keith, where's my lunch?" he called across the caf. to the second string quarterback, and his assumed personal slave. Terina frowned.
Terina: "I wish you'd be easier on Keith, Stevie."
He smiled at her as if he hadn't heard a word she'd said and continued to tell her how football practice had gone, and how many points he'd scored. But, the truth was he had heard, he'd heard things like that coming from Terina more and more as time went by. He wasn't used to people criticizing him and frankly, he didn't like it. Terina butted into his monologue.
Terina: "Did you hear about the rally they're having downtown for the students?" she asked brightly, trying desperately to change the subject. Stevie frowned at her.
Stevie:"I wish you wouldn't interrupt me like that Terina, besides, what do I care about a student rally?"
Terina sighed and shook her head to brush off the subject, she let him go back to his football, but didn't really pay much attention.

Terina finished up the last question from her calculus homework and lay down on her bed. She could just see her phone sitting on her desk out of the corner of her eye. She eyed it wistfully, but her thoughts soon turned angry.
He thinks he knows it all..'I told you so' that's what he'll say. Like I haven't already realized. If I don't call him it'll serve him right, but then he'll call me and wake dad up and then...
She sighed and rolled across the bed so she could reach the phone. She picked it up and dialed.
Lamz: "Hello, you've reached Talib's pants, he's not available at the moment for obvious reasons. Please leave a message" Terina groaned.
Terina: "Who's he ####ing Lamz?"
Lamz: "Terina! What a pleasant surprise, actually Talib's in the shower, he wanted me to answer that way 'cause Tracey is supposed to be calling"
Terina: "Tracey? Didn't they break up last month?"
Lamz: "No, that was Shawna, Tracey came after Shawna, they broke up yesterday"
Terina: "Did she cheat on him?"
Lamz: "Yup"
Terina: "So now he wants to get back at her by 'pretending' to have a 'just add water' sexual life?"
Lamz:"Yup"
Terina: "Hmm..well, can I leave a message with his pants?"
Lamz:"Sure thing"
Terina: "K, tell Mr. Wonderful that he was right, BUT, if he dares call me with an 'I told you so' I will personally cut off his balls so there will be no more Shawna's or Stacey's!"
Lamz: "That's Tracey.."
Terina: "Whatever"
Lamz: "K Terina, I will do so, shall I get him to call you later?"
Terina: "No, not tonight, tell him that if he wakes up in the middle of the night over there, than he
can call me here during my day, ok?"
Lamz: "Ok, I will pass the message along"
Terina: "Thanks bunches Meg"
Lamz: "Anything for my favourite groupie"
Terina: "Laters"
Lamz: "See ya"

Teacher: "And therefore, when Hitler invaded the Sudetenland in Czechoslovakia.."
RING, RING
Mr. Knox: "Terina, how many times do I have to tell you that if you must bring that horrid contraption into my class, the least you could do is turn it on vibrate!" Terina smiled deviously.
Terina: "You sure about that Sir? My contraption on vibrate? Got it" Mr. Knox turned red, it was a well-known fact throughout the school that he frequented the adult's only store across the street. She excused herself from the boring teach to answer the phone.
Terina: "Shut up"
Talib: "Where's 'hello'?"
Terina: "Don't say it"
Talib: "Since when is hello a bad word?"
Terina: "You know what I'm talking about"
Talib: "Yeah, yeah, my pants passed on the message, but really Terina you think I'm that insensitive? I was calling to say I'm sorry I had to be right"
Terina: "I'm sure you're sorry"
Talib: "Really, Terina"
She paused. He always had a way of getting down her defenses, well, actually, it was more like a tone of voice and sweet words that got them down.
Terina: "Fine Talib, thank you"
Talib:"Good"
Terina: "Good?"
Talib: "I was worried you were mad at me, I've been a total jerk about this Stevie guy"
Terina: "No you haven't"
Talib: "I have, it was none of my business"
Terina: "Yeah well..neither was my scraped knee in kindergarten or my spelling test in gr. 1 or Billy Parson when we were 8.."
Talib: "I get the picture"
Terina: "Took you long enough"
Talib:"Ha Ha, but really, you ok?"
Terina:"I am now, but when I fail my World History exam you'll be hearing from me"
Talib: "At least we know you have your priorities straight"
Terina: "Yeah right, whatever happened to putting myself first eh?"
Talib: "You're too soft hearted. I don't know anyone else who would ditch class to talk to me on the phone"
Terina:"Who else do you know that goes to school?"
Talib: "…Jameelah and Kameelah.."
Terina: "..and that's about it..no?"
Talib: "Ok, ya caught me"
Terina: "I better go Talib"
Talib: "Thanks for calling?"
Terina: "Yeah, thank you"
Talib: "Later darling"
Terina: "Later"
As soon as Talib hung up he realized she had never answered his question: Was she ok?
