Chapter 13: Discovered
Terina: "Talib, how long do you think we can keep this up?" she got dressed.
Talib pulled his shirt on over his head and ran his fingers through his hair.
Talib: "I don't know... I'm hoping forever," his eyes sparkled as he smiled lovingly at her. His hands drew Terina closer and he kissed her. "I don't want to leave, but it's getting late and people will start to wonder where I am..." It was already dusk, and the sun was beginning to set. He had been at Terina's for the entire afternoon, but neither of them minded, nor noticed.
Terina: "Okay, I'll drive you home."
Talib: "No, someone may see us... how about just dropping me off at the corner and I'll walk." Terina agreed and they headed to the front door, hand in hand. Just as they were going to open the door, the doorbell rang. Their eyes bulged out of their heads as Talib leapt into the laundry room, out of view. Terina regained her composure and opened the door, hoping it was a salesman.
Terina: "Star! Nique! What are you two doing here?" she subtly shoved Talib's shoes into the closet behind her with her feet.
Nique explained: "We thought we should go for a girls' night out! You know... coffee, or clubbing... or both!"
Terina: "Ah, well..."
Star urged: "No, no... no ifs ands or buts! It's been a while since we all went out!"
Terina: "Okay, lemme grab my jacket and keys in the laundry room." She rushed over there and gave Talib an apologetic look.
Obviously, Talib had heard everything and he whispered: "It's okay, don't worry."
Terina kissed him quickly and said: "there's a spare key under the mailbox so you can lock up." He thanked her and she grabbed her belongings.
Nique and Star waited patiently when Star caught a glimpse of a pair of male shoes in the closet. She pretended to need to check the mirror on the door and slid the closet shut.
Something green caught Nique's eye.
Nique: "Hey, Star? I didn't know Terina had a cell phone..."
Star: "She doesn't, why?"
Nique asked: "Then, whose is that?" pointing at the phone lying in the middle of the staircase. Before Star could think of an excuse, Terina returned into the foyer area.
Nique: "Hey, Teri? Isn't that Talib's cell phone?" She wanted them to end the lies and deception once and for all.
From where Talib was, he had heard Nique's question. His heart skipped a beat. How could he have been so careless? Terina tried to quickly come up with an excuse since she had been caught off guard.
Terina lied: "Oh, he left that in my car when I drove him home" She felt horrible lying to Nique but she couldn't let this out yet. She silently begged Star to help her out.
Star: "C'mon Nique, let's go. You ready, Terina?" changing the subject.
Nique gave one last suspicious look at the cell phone and agreed. She was so close to catching them. It's not like she really wanted to, but she just wanted it brought out and resolved. She hated Talib for doing this to Meg, but she also wanted Talib to be happy and to get along with Terina. Although she didn't expect them to get along THIS well. Nique wondered if he was still in the house.
Terina locked the door behind her and got into Star's car.
Terina: "So, where are we off to?"
Nique suggested: "Wanna go check out that bar nearby?"
Star : "Okay, sounds good. I'll just not drink. It's fine with me"
Terina with fake enthusiasm: "Cool, let's go then!" She was too worried about Talib and still a little shaken up from that close call.
