A slide check functions like a bleed valve. What it essentially is (as far as I can tell), is an outlet hole (pin sized) with an airtight sleeve over it. I am *not* sure if pressure is retained on one side or the other when the slide check is opened. The only slide check I own is hooked up as shown at: http://www.f4og.com/reapreg.html (second picture down). I do know that it is easy to knock a slide check open during a game if you're not careful. So it is best placed such that it will not come into unintentional contact with your hand, a bunker, etc.

Since you got me wondering, I'm gonna call around and find out for you. :)
