I just bought a used F4 on e-bay and i'm having some problems with it. It sounds like it has a small leak because i can hear co2 leaking from the end of my barrel. The bolt has a big scratch on it from the front to 1/4 the way down from where the balldetent scratched it over time do you think this could be causing the problem with Co2 leaking down the barrel?

  • Screw for Vertical Adapter -- Mark Murphy, 23:01:09 02/13/03 Thu (66.168.65.38)
I want to buy my friend's F-4, but the screw in the vertical adapter is all screwed up and stripped. It leaks co2 as a result because we can't get the thing to fit snug. When we took it to the paintball store, the lady there freaked out and told us that the vertical adapter isn't supposed to come off at all. She said we are basically s.o.l. She told us we could buy a new vertical adapter, but the screw doesnt come with it apparently. If anyone knows where I can get a hold of a screw (or if you have an extra, please help me out and post a reply or send me an email. Thanks in advance.

I own an F2 Illustrator. I bought it used and it worked fine but now it leaks like crazy. I replaced all the o-rings, the cup seal, oiled the whole thing up and it still leaks. I have a bad feeling that my problem is the valve. I want to replace all the internals but no one sells parts specificaly for the F2, so I was wondering if F4 parts will work in the F2. If any one knows that F4 parts will work or a site that sells F2 parts pleas tell me. Thanks!

  • ACI was at the Expo so I asked about the E-frame! -- Toklas, 14:04:30 02/11/03 Tue (12.13.61.64)
Ok so ACI was at the Expo here in LA this past weekend. I made it a point to buy a barrel. Got a Graphiti for $50..not bad. I also had the chance to talk to a few people regarding the electronic frame for the F4. Here is what they told me. It seems that they have been having trouble with shootdown when putting an e-frame on the F4. So they are re-working the valve. That is why it's taking so long. So it seems that when the new frame comes out we will get a nice new higher flowing valve to go along with it. At least they assured me that they are still working on it.

oh yeah. They let me know that the showroom store in ontario is now open on saturday. They have pretty good prices on some stuff. I saw the phat system for $80 (old one with the sleaves) the newer phat system was $150 i think. All 2 piece and 2 piece graphiti barrles are $50 and a 680/3000 bulldog2 for $150.

  • Smart Parts Barrels -- Imants, 21:53:03 02/01/03 Sat (12.242.139.10)
First off thanks to everyone who checks this board and responds to stuff. I have learned a lot and with the help of this site convinces three other buddies to get F4's for starter guns...we love them so far.

My brother just bought a Smart Parts Progressive Barrel for the prolite thinking that it would work with the F4. I know from the FAQ that there is a common problem with the ridge. This barrel does not screw in all the way and is deffinately held up by the valve dealio. So I guess my question is, if the prolite barrels don't always work, which ones are people using? What do you guys use on your f4's?
It seems like some kind of chart/list showing which barrels work with the F4 and which will work with slight modification is in order if it is not already in existence. If no one posts a response that says there is a site that shows this already, I propose that people just post up what barrels they use and whether they like them so we can put a list together and end the mistery. (atleast for my sanity) Then maybe Mark could put it in the Faq.

    Thanks again for the clarification

    -Imants

  • My F4' s here! -- Jon, 13:44:42 02/06/03 Thu (147.239.118.3)
Alright, now my F4 finally arrived last night, and I am thrilled! I payed $70 including shipping on Ebay, and the thing is in great shape! It looks to be a '99 with HVC, Sub Zero xchamber (4 stage), and it even had a venturi bolt, which wasn't mentioned in the product description.
My one complaint is that the marker was bought (by the ebay dealer) from someone who didn't know how to take care of their marker. It was filthy! Obviously, I'm going to take it all apart tonight and clean it, as well as install my new double trigger frame that I ordered from ACI!
My question is this: are there any special details I need to pay attention to as I "restore"/detail/clean this marker? This is my 2nd F4, but the first one was bought new, so I didn't have to worry about it. Also, I know it's addressed somewhere in the archives or FAQ, but what is the preferred ,method of lubrication, airlube or other?
    Thanks,
    Jon

I love my viper...streamlined...streamlined..considering I got a good deal on it and I tested it in like 9 deg weather with co2 and a remote line shit it did good. My buddy Doug was using his F4 "which i convinced him into doing being it's his first marker" it was keeping up with mine except in one area. Being mine only has a 10 inch barrel and his has the 14 inch thunderpig he was out shooting me but "as well as most players know who use co2" i could see the co2 venting out his barrel when he shot....no on the viper there was no CO2 at all venting from the barrel....this was amasing we both where using remotes and he has his 8 stage exp chamber on the f4. In the past I had impulse & mag but i wanted to get back to woods ball marker which is the best.

I'm pretty new to paintball (2 years-ish) and there are not really any fields around; especially no big ones. But anyway I've been looking around for a while and I have no real clue what it takes to become a referee for paintball. I'm about 16 and I figured it would be fun to do. Open to any suggestions...

Also, I have a low budget gun I lend to peopel (Winchester Durango) and it has extreme problems recocking. I was thinking it was the sear or something in the trigger frame, but I'm probably wrong on this.

Ok so I was reading up around some of the paintball sites and it seems that they are now making the flatline barrel for the A5 which means that its threaded for our F4's. Any thoughts on the flatline? also I know its curved so It has a sheath across the top. Would it be possible to modify it to fit the F4? would it work? is it worthwhile? I have seen flatline cockers and I was pretty amazed what the backspin does. just a thought.

I have a f4 I bought about a year ago. I have only shot about 2000 balls out of it. Now when I shot it, it only lobs the balls out of it. I had it chronographed at 170 top speed. I have tried strecthing the spring, tore it down and cleaned, lubed, and replaced o-rings. I have also tried different co2 bottles on it. The one thing I have to say about it is that its consistant. It shoots the same no matter what I do to it. I would like to get it fixed if I knew what to do. Help from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

  • Which f4? -- Foo, 19:39:15 01/24/03 Fri (64.90.44.58)
Sorry if this is a stupid or obvious question, but I've been looking around for a while and can't seem to find a real answer on it.

There's a lot of variations of the F4. Is one considered superior as far as reliability/etc. go? The newer models appear to have more wizz-bang and features to them, but I notice that most people seem to talk up the 99 most of all, and I also notice that the older models and the newer basic models appear to cost more, while the XP/etc. cost less. This would seem to indicate they changed some stuff that hasn't been that popular and that the older and basic models remain in the highest demand.

I'm not someone who thinks I have to have the perfect gun to play well or anything, but one of the main reasons I'm in the market for an F4 is the reputation for reliability and basic straight shooting, so I may as well get the model that exemplifies that the best.

So is there anything to the idea that the 99s are more reliable than the 2k2s and the basic 2k2s are more reliable than the XPs, or does it really not matter?

  • Mods update -- Big_Mac, 11:17:48 01/22/03 Wed (155.88.33.254)
Okay, managed to put some work in over the holidays. The basic aim of this is to get better efficiency (perhaps lower pressure) out of my 99 F4. Here is what I've done to date:

Valve: enlarged central cavity and outlet.
Valve pin: thinned shaft radiused at outlet end
Bolt: enlarged, radiused, matched and polished inlet
Striker: fully polished, chamfered back end
ASA adapter: removed 12-point solid bolt, replaced with drilled allen head bolt, #43 air inlets opened up with #36 bit and squared.
Bottom line: air inlet drilled out

All parts so far are modified stock (no cash outlay!) other than the allen-head bolt. I have increased the airflow area through the ASA (the most troublsome spot)450%. I haven't drilled for a gauge so haven't done any pressure testing yet. The marker still shoots and recocks using my 850 preset Bulldog II, so at least I haven't trashed the marker. Ordered my shooting chrony today, so fps/pressure tests should be on the horizon.
Mark has promised some space on the mods page for the pics and results of this effort when I get it thoroughly flogged (thanks Mark!). I'll put up new info as I get things done.

    I need some opinions/help...
I am buying a Griffin from my brother in law, and he is leaving it up to me to name a "fair" price. This marker has been used maybe 3 times, and I know he kept it clean because I got him into the sport and showed him how to clean his gun. It has no upgrades except for a one piece ACI zero gravity barrel.
He is also wanting to include a 20 oz. tank and a mask (PMI XRay, I think).
Anyway, what is an appropriate price to give him? I don't want to low ball him, but he is family, etc. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
