  • I'm selling my precious F4. -- Yogurt, 15:18:26 06/22/03 Sun (68.33.154.97)
I wanted to say that this site was a great resource for a beginner paintball player a few years ago and I'm finally upgrading to a better marker. I know I haven't posted here in a while, but soon I'll no longer be an F4 owner. At the risk of breaking some rules, I am abandoning the little-used Trading Post and shamelessly advertising here. I'm selling my 2002 ACI F4 Illustrator XP. (Black) Includes Palmer Stabilizer, 20 oz. Smart Parts On/Off Anti-Siphon tank, a ton of other things. I made a huge thread at PBNation, lots of horrid low-res pictures.

  • OK people, time to vote -- Mark, 11:39:47 06/13/03 Fri (205.174.22.23)
The "new" message board seems to be functioning as expected, so now is the time to visit both boards and help me make a decision.

Both have good points and bad points. Everyone has their own opinion.

During the week of June 15-21 I'd like to receive your thoughts about which board we keep. You can either (1) post them on the original board, (2) post them on the new board, or (3) email them to me. During the weekend of June 20-22 I'll make a decision, and on Monday, June 23 one of the boards will be taken off the homepage menu.

I encourage all of you to try out both boards. Write test messages (Don't worry, I'll clean up the board later), test replies, etc. Write the same message on both boards and see which one is easier to read or reply to.

The message board is primarily focused on people asking questions or reporting problems and the rest of us trying to solve the problem. We're a Help Desk. And we've done a fantastic job over the past 5 years. I don't want that to stop. The question is, "Which message board style will allow us to do this better?"

You do NOT have to register (login and password) to use the new board, although doing so will give you some nifty extra options.

    Let me know your thoughts.

  • My (new) Bolt Thread -- robert, 16:20:40 05/31/03 Sat (216.76.238.159)
Im not shying away from Delrin b/c of y'all at all, nor am I shying away from it at all, Ive just decided to use MDS Nylon, which is another self-lubricating plastic, only supposed to be a little stronger. This came from another friend of mine, who really knows his stuff.

As for the weakness of a plastic bolt, I see no harm in it, have you ever looked at a spyder, they have tons of aftermarket Delrin bolts available. Also Delrin and/or MDS Nylon, is not a "soft" plastic, its quite sturdy. I looked at "How the F4 Works" and its a neat drawing, but there is no binding on the the bolt or bolt pin, so really the bolt is getting pushed forward by the spring, then pushed back from the blowback of the valve.

  • Spring Kit? -- Paintball Newbie, 20:19:36 06/04/03 Wed (65.138.136.207)
I own a F4 Illustrator and was wondering if there is a spring kit available for my marker? Recently I chronograph my marker and I cannot get it to drop lower than 275. It usually shoots around 270 - 345 fps. The paintball field I go too does not allow anyone to shoot above 270 fps. I am running CO2 for my marker. I know that CO2 is a very unstable gas but is there anything I can do to make it more consistent? I was told that I can cut a coil but is there any other options available? I'm afraid to cut a coil because I'm not exactly sure how much to cut off. If there is a spring kit out there, where can I get one? Thanks!

  • Field results....CO2 v. HPA thru Palmer Stabilizer -- DaRaptor, 19:16:31 05/28/03 Wed (67.4.70.4)
I went out and played all day last Saturday, and in practical terms, I found the regulated CO2 to be a little better. I didn't do any actual scientific testing or comparison, but I DID use both my CO2 and HPA in games during the course of the day. One time when entering the field at the chrono with CO2, I had FIVE SHOTS IN A ROW all at 282 fps. The rest were +/- about 3 fps. I only made one adjustment to my gun or reg all day, and that was when I switched barrels. The field paint at my field isn't really very good, but overall, I got better consistency with CO2. But I should note that I did NOT drop the pressure for the CO2 down to it's 350 limit....I still don't know where my marker's sweetspot is, but 600psi seems to work just fine with both.

However, at one point, my slide check started leaking very badly (it's between my bottomline and the reg), when I took it apart, the o-rings were swolen and lumpy beyond description. I could barely slide it at all...I'm not sure if this was due to the CO2, the paint, dirt, water, or whatever, because my gun was caked in all of those. But that was the only problem I had all day, even as I kept using the CO2, so....who knows?
