I can understand that...

Co2- C=around 12 or 14 amu, 0=16 (x2) Total=44-46
N2- N=17 (x2) Total=34
O2- O=16 (x2) Total=32

And then there's pretty much potential/kinetic energy theories that roughly state that there's more energy in larger masses.... Co2's more massive and therefore providing more force. (Do I sound smart yet?)

As for the liquid, it was just a stab in the dark... :)

Afterthough- PSI is the measure of the force by which the molecules are pressing outwards (and in other cases inwards). Decreasing volume while keeping the same mass leads to higher energy levels (more molecules bouncing off each other in a tighter space) and therefore higher pressures (the force the atoms are exerting).

So while they may contain different numbers or sizes of atoms in a set area, wouldn't it be safe to assume that if they were at the same pressures they would exert equal force?

Let me know if this is too deep (or totally wrong, it is based on a High School Chemistry background)
