I think one of the main advantages to low pressure as far as efficiency is concerned is this:

Assuming it takes a fixed ammout of energy to both fire a paintball at usable velocities, and re-cock the marker, then in theory, no matter what pressure you run the marker at, it will use about the same ammount of air....either higher volume at slightly lower pressure, or less volume at higher pressure. However, if you take this ideal marker and reduce the pressure from 850psi to 400psi, *particularly if you're running HPA or N2* you get either 2600 or 4100psi of usable air from your tank, as opposed to 2150 and 3650psi respectively. Although I have no idea if those efficiency gains would be similar or marginal with CO2...
