RPS Big Ball is a very good investment for backyard/outlaw play. Its cheap, durable, and the thicker shell cuts through the underbrush better. The downside is that it tends to bounce more often.

I urge you to avoid Point Blank paintballs. Like the name says, you have to be point blank to actually hit anything.

I will second Mav's statement: Buying better paint can improve your game. The more expensive paint is made to higher tolerances (fewer dimpled ones), and has a thinner shell that will break on your opponent very easily. In this catagory, I personally prefer the RPS All-Star paint.
