Make sure YOU run the game and the players dont run You. Your a ref and thats what you do, you referee. You are a "field official" . At 16yrs you might be become intimidated by older players, its ok as long as you dont show it and make your calls firm. Make safety a paramount issue for reffing sessions, Make sure u know all the field rules 100% through and through. Remember you are reffeing at an amusement park, not a paintball field. Bussines owners understand this. Make sure You explain the rules to the players often and explain often occuring circumstances to the rules i.e. surrender rules, bunkering, equipment hits ect. Explain the GAME rules thouroughly, so there is no doubt on the player's part. Be on the spot to make calls and know that your job hazzard involves possibly getting hit several times in a game. Communicate with other refs. If you want to learn the NPPL rules. Be nice but dont be afraid to toss a bad apple out of the game for misconduct. Hope that helps.
