Jade grinned as Erlic announced that there was an illusionary wall behind the one basket. "How intriguing," she said as she waltzed over. She followed him through the wall and down the stairs, looking around at the strange cavern they found themselves in. Isobel was at the foot of the stairs looking out over a large lake.

"Look darling... a little house in a hill. Do you supposed it's as charming inside?" Jade said with a twinkle in her eye. She thought she heard Erlic chuckle and smiled. Certainly it would be interesting if not exactly charming.

Jade watched with fascination the little drama with Corum and Tia. She didn't know how Corum was managing to walk on the water, but figured it must be either some natural ability he had or some magic item or ability he'd picked up along the way. She was beginning to think they would all have to swim for it when Ravin found the long boat. Relieved, they all climbed in and were soon standing on the island looking at the round door.

Ravin checked the door for traps and found none. Jade was slightly surprised, considering the illusion employed to keep the opening in the wall from being discovered. Just as strange was the light that flooded from the doorway when it was opened. "How odd," she murmured.

They entered and found themselves in what looked like an ordinary foyer but lit with a magical light. Jade's senses were up, her skin prickling. The place was eerily silent. She could feel something in the air, but she didn't know if it was something real or merely her imagination.

Off the foyer was a large room with statues along the walls. But the most fascinating thing about the room was the enormous ruby on a pedestal at the far end of the room. As they drew nearer Jade thought she could see something moving inside the gem. She was about to remark on it when one of the Jann said something about the Heart of Al'Rakim. Jade listened with interest as Ardesmar related the legend of the gem. She looked back just as Corum reached out.

"No!" She started to say, but it was too late. Corum touched the gem and the statues around them sprang to life... literally! Jade was knocked over by a panther which sprang for Ardesmar. She quickly scrambled to her feet, a dagger in her hand. Ravin had dispatched the creature but apparently was badly wounded. She didn't have time to check on his condition, however, as another of the statue beasts ran toward her.

As the lion sprang she cast a Shatter spell at it. The once-stone creature was badly wounded but not stopped by the spell and as she fell backward she kicked upward, jamming her heel into the lion's belly as her dagger slammed up under its chin. Its great claws raked her neck, leaving four long gashes in her alabaster flesh. She rolled to the side as the creature fell to the ground, then scrambled to her feet and whirled to face it just as it was recovering. It turned, snarling, blood dripping from its wounded jaw. "Nice kitty, kitty," Jade purred at the beast. It stopped for a moment, regarding her, and she threw what looked like a small black pebble at its feet. The pebble exploded in a great rush of fire that consumed the lion on the spot.

Jade sighed, blood pouring from the wounds on her neck as she pressed her hand against them. Fortunately the thing's claws hadn't severed any major blood vessels, but it certainly hurt like a bitch. She sagged against the wall for a moment as she watched to see if anyone would need her spell casting abilities. The room seemed to spin and she realized the lion's claws must have either been poisoned or diseased. "This is really a rather unfortunate development," she commented to anyone in earshot as she sank to the floor.
