Great story man! Sounds like a long and winding journey. I know what you mean about how great it feels to have good sails. I'm really new to everything and have been out less than ten times. Yesterday I went out and for the first time felt pretty relaxed and in control. The ny harbor is quite crowded but like they say, if u can make it here... Lol. It is a good/bad place to learn. I found a secret little anchorage over here by the statue of liberty. I went out for the first on a larger boat last week and had an awesome time learning to handle the lines, winches, etc. Also got to see really open water to the horizon. Made me want to just sail over it more than ever. It was quite a high. Felt really, really good. I'm just really happy that this became part of my life.

I was wondering if you or anyone can give me an idea of the amount of power you can get from your oars. I'm curious what the aproximate hp equivalent would be. What speed can u get and what's your displacement? I'm wondering if my 22 ft 2500 lb boat could be rowed successfully against say a 15 or 20 knt headwind, and generally what speed I could get using oars.

Wish you fair winds rest of your journey.
