There seems to be a lot of pessimism about the candidates running and that seems understandable. Most are not very well known and the ones that are we all know how bad they are. Reading some of these comments, I am left with the question of, what are the things the writers most want for Newburgh?

The “pig/preacher” as he was described has dedicated decades of his life to community, he seems to really love Newburgh. He might not know anything about policy, but he seems willing to learn. The “malleable” candidate is young and with youth comes some level of inexperience, but he is a homeowner, has been involved and knows policy. The socialite, has been on multiple committees, knows policy, is very invested in Newburgh’s art scene and environmental issues. If as a city we want people who genuinely care about our city and show up in many ways consistently. I think we have three candidates of five that we need to press hard and know where they stand on public safety. Know where they stand on our shitty roads and sidewalks? What they intend to do to help businesses that are hurting and tax payers that are getting killed. We need to make sure the best two candidates win and that those two candidates are going to be the most willing to have dialogue. Because that’s deeply missing. If we call our council members and they don’t return our calls, that is a problem.

I don’t get the sense that any of these three are unaware or detached from these issues. We should engage them.
