12 players between yourself and ball? Unlikely, however going round the back you have at least 8 if not more. That argument doesn't wash.

As for an official being in-line with the ball carrier what advantage does that present? Forward passes? A ref already makes judgment calls on forward passes from in-front of play now.

With respect, the "poor position" diatribe is merely self-opinion and not evidently objective.
