About 6 years ago I was feeding my granddaughter Kayla who was sitting beside me on the couch. She had a fork in her hand and I turned to her. At the same time she turned quickly to me and the fork (children's) went into my eye! The pain was excruciating and I could not open the eye. Later that night I was honestly "screaming" in pain and Ian had to take me to the local hospital. I spent the night there and was told that I had a scratched...not the cornea, but something else...and I was exceedingly lucky that I got to keep my sight. I had to wear a patch over my eye for a week and remain in a darkened room. Oh...it was awful, just awful. Poor Kayla still remembers the incident regardless of her tender age at the time. I feel so guilty for that. I truly understand and sympathize with you. What is it about you and me, Neysa...the way we have shared things...first the Shingles and now this! I'd rather we only shared our loved for London! lol

Oh, my goodness, you could have lost your sight! Do you have any problems today with your eye because of that accident? I'm suppose to keep it uncovered. The doctor said it would heal faster. When I went out on Monday and when I have to go out tomorrow I'm covering it. I don't want to be teased about why I have a black eye etc... I just put a small non stick pad on and sunglasses. Two people that I don't know asked me if I had an operation and I just said yeah. I didn't want to tell them what happened. I feel so stupid, if I wouldn't have been in such a hurry and more careful it wouldn't have happened.It also didn't help that I was angry that I couldn't find the car and it was freezing outside. I was also worried about my mom who I left in the car because I would only be in the store a few minutes. If I would have been standing up straight the tip of the car door would have just hit the middle of my cheek. I was bent forward talking into the car to my mom as I swung the door open.From now on I am going to be more careful!!!!! I learned my lesson!

When I was at the post office, a woman that I know told me that when her son was little, while she was on the phone. He got hold of an ice pick. It went into his eye. He had to get special stitches. Today he is 18 and his eye is okay.

I also have a cousin who is about 54 years old. When he was 17, he was fooling around with a chemistry set in his basement. It blew up and he lost the sight in his one eye.

I am very thankful that it wasn't worse. I must admit in the back of my mind I can see myself at the red light that evening. As I sat there I kept saying should I go in for some chocolates, or go home. At first I was going to go home because I had made that early morning run to Walmart for chocolates two days earlier. I was worn out we had been shopping all day. As they say always go with your first thought. I should have gone home!

Good old London... How about it Barb, lets go.....do some shopping at Harrods!!!!! Lets take Catie along and make a special stop in Belgian. Not sure if it is spelled right....stopped in "Bruge", a little medival town back in 2001. The chocolates there are to die for!!!! I can't remember how much chocolate I bought to bring home, it was a lot. It never made it home. My mom and I ate it all!!! I guess we gained about 50 pounds!!!!!

I was very sorry to read about your cousin...so terrible. Neysa...stop beating yourself up with what could have been and should have been...because it won't make you feel any better. I know things will come around and you'll be as good as new before you know it. :-)
I love the sound of "Bruge" cause there's nothing like Belgium chocolate is there. We have chocolate shops here in Calgary, owned and operated by a chap from Belgium who has won awards for his chocolate. His family had a chocolate shop in his native Belgium. YUMMY! :-)
My thoughts are with you, Neysa.
