If it does, that's easily my favorite. Football, friends, family and food? What else can you ask for? Otherwise, its Easter. Then, we 'get' to play football in the backyard.
When I was in the USAF overseas, I enjoyed any holiday where we had off and the host nation did not. That way, I could go to the shops and restaurants...and have a look around. It was so relaxing it's hard to explain. When I was stn'd in Germany, I went to Wiesbaden or I'd take a nite train to Florence or Paris over Thxgvg depending on what was up. Boy, were those the good ole days or what?
I do not like holidays where gifts are exchgd. I still have bags full of gifts I havent even used yet. Then, I have to buy folks stuff that they wont use. If I give money or gift cards, I get teased that I'm takin' the ez way out. My family and friends get irritable abt stuff that doesnt matter. You can have Christmas. Bah Humbug! At least I get some quality prayer time in...for patience and for it to be over soon w/ as lil' pain as possible. LoL
Barb, what does your family do for Chanukah? Just curious.
So I'll take holidays when we get together w/ family and friends and eat, drink and be merry. Great stuff! Take care, God Bless,
Phil from AZ

We kind of mix Chanukah and Christmas together........ -- Barb, 11:58:11 08/15/07 Wed [1] (clgrtnt9-port-24.dial.telus.net/161.184.54.24)
Chanukah is not a religious holiday but a festive one. It is called "Festival of the Lights." At our house we decorate outdoors a little, with white and blue lights (traditional) instead of the multi colours used at Christmas. Instead of Christmas dinner, we have latkes (potato pancakes, with steak (cause that's what Ian prefers) and veggies. We use to light the Menorah (candles) when the kids were young. Since Chanukah lasts 8 days, a candle is lit the first night, 2 candles the 2nd night and so on until there are a full 8 on the last night. A prayer is spoken over the lighting of them. Gift giving is traditionally a gift per day for each of the 8 days for the children. We did that too when the kids were little. Now we give them a few gifts at Chanuakah and a few at Christmas, and it is often that the 2 holidays run together.

Re: Excellent, thx for sharing that w/ us Barb.... -- Phil, 12:04:33 08/15/07 Wed [1] (71-223-15-110.phnx.qwest.net/71.223.15.110)
Some us are familiar w/ other Jewish traditions and holidays. I, for 1 had, very lil' idea what Jewish folks did during Chanukah. I'm not sure why this is, except that I'm so busy at Christmas. Again, thx for sharing what you do/did during Chanukah. Take care, God Bless,

By the way I love potato pancakes. Just had some two weeks ago at our church festival. They are very popular in this area.

Xmas is for everyone. -- Joan, 13:47:50 08/16/07 Thu [1] (ip68-0-253-131.ri.ri.cox.net/68.0.253.131)
Even people who don't believe in any god celebrate Xmas. It's just a fun holiday. It's easy to get swept up in the good feelings.
One year one of the days of Chanukah and Xmas Eve conincided, so we went to our friends' house and had Chanukahmas Eve dinner. :-)
They lit the candles, and the two oldest kids said the prayers in Hebrew. It was really nice. Of coures other than Adonai, I have no idea what anyone is saying in Hebrew. :-)
