Subject: Re: Where is Neysa indeed?
In reply to: Catie 's message, "Where is Neysa?" on 11:10:41 08/06/07 Mon

Was this a straightfwd question or an effort to engage in a philosophical discussion Catie?

If it's the latter I prefer the answer given by Bishop Berkeley, an 18th century Irish philosopher of the immaterialism category. He stated:

"To be, is to be perceived."

Thus, if Neysa is perceived, she must exist...somewhere. Or to quote a former, ez-going co-worker, when I fumed some yrs ago for not being able to find a sub-ordinate of mine:

"Phil, don't worry about it, everybody's gotta be somewhere y'know!"

Thus, as long as somebody (which includes God) perceives Neysa, she must exist. And, if she exists, she has to be somewhere. Pretty simple actually.

On the other hand, if it is a mundane question as to her whereabts, I will give way, and let Neysa answer that question. I am fascinated to hear what Lynn and the others think of Bishop Berkeley's concept of Immaterialism though.

Hope all's well. Take care, God Bless,

Phil from arid AZ

All you have to do is discern that I do not exist. Then, only 'cuz God perceives me to exist...would I really exist.

As for Neysa, I doubt that she really loses any sleep over whether I perceive her to exist or not. It's amazing that Bishop B and Co actually debated this issue for half a century. But its still fascinating stuff, if only from a historical perspective.

Phil the Philosopher...not!

...I definitely take that as a compliment! Donald's good people in my mind! He's also the most knowledgeable person I've ever known abt the early days of TV. All I have to do is ask on Brenda's...and presto, Donald has the answer! Absolutely amazing!! Take care, God Bless,

For a minute there, these folks had me wondering if either 1 of us existed! LoL. In the end, we're lucky we have ole Bishop B to thank and Descartes, who stated:

"I think, therefore I am."

Oh my gosh, I know that saying very well. I forgot it was Descartes who said it. For some reason I always think it is Plato , or Socrates, who said it. Then again, I was not really into studying philosophers.
