I am happy you are finding spiritual renewal Lynn. My faith is everything to me. Now you will be a light to your own precious family. :) It goes to prove our lives are open books for all to read. Your words are a gentle reminder to me to be ever aware that the right stuff gets "published". :)

I have to say first my mom who taught me my prayers and how to make the sign of the cross. Who took me to church for the first time when I was two. My parents by their example, my relatives (aunts & uncles), our friends.

Also, the nuns that taught me for twelve years. Just going to a Catholic School, being surrounded by a 'God' filled atmosphere has influenced my spirituality.

However, the conservative attitude at the schools I attended, and not being allowed to question not only my religion, but other religions has instilled my desire for spiritual growth.

Although I lived in Vegas for only a yr, I have very fond memories of the place. It was there that I was 'saved' some 20 yrs ago, thx to a multitude of wonderful folks who stuck with me during those difficult, early days. (Believe it or not, I can be difficult once in awhile.)

Prior to that, it was a couple nuns who had the courage to come to our house and challenge my parents to upgrade our religious education. My sister and I were so far behind that they couldnt put us in with the other kids in Catechism. To get us caught up, the nuns conducted one-on-one sessions with us until we were up to snuff. I missed those sessions for a couple yrs after they were over. Sadly, I stopped going a few yrs later, when they started all those nutty 'rap sessions' that plagued the late 60s/early 70s.

I still remember the 1 who was most instrumental in getting me to a point where I could join the other kids. Her name was Sister Paula Marie. Not only was she very serious about her profession, but she and the other nuns had great senses of humor. I will never forget them, and her, in particular.

Take care, God Bless,

Phil from AZ

...was that I lived btwn Vegas World (I think) and Circus Circus. B4 I got my job at the tvl agency, I worked at the Mickey D's right around the corner from where I lived. I struggled to make ends meet, and against the advice of so many of those wonderful folks I knew at the church, I went back in the USAF. I don't regret that decision now at all, but it was very tuff to leave LV.

Still, I have fond memories of the place, and when I was stn'd in VA, I went back there a couple times. The Church I went to was on Mojave, I think...

Great memories though, although it was a very difficult time. I s'pose some of us need to go thru a tuff time, every now and then, to realize just how well we have it.

Take care, God Bless,

Phil from AZ...formerly of Vegas...

My grandkids and I frequent Circus Circus alot. I live on the southeast side, so it's a bit of drive to that area. I wouldn't want to live there, too much crime.

I hardly ever went out after dark, except when I worked nite shift at McDonald's. I heard sirens going off all the time, and pretended that they were ambulances. My co-workers insisted that they give me a ride home when we closed at 3am. They said they were concerned abt my safety even though I lived only a couple hundred yds from the place.

I didn't have to worry abt folks vandalizing my car at least. I had so lil' money that I could not even afford a car, and I had to take the bus to/from work. It seemed that I spent half of my existence waiting for buses to come and go. Now, I drive a new car and I can afford to live in my own condo. What diff'ce 20 yrs makes!

Still, as I've said b4, I really enjoyed my yr in Vegas...thx mostly to a great grp of friends and a wonderful church. Take care, God Bless,

Sometimes I woke up wondering where I was. LoL. Now, for the first time in a couple decades I'm settled. And now that I'm back in the States, guess which question I get the most?

"When are you coming here to visit?" I tell them that I ain't going nowhere for awhile. Murphy's Law, I reckon...

Take care, God Bless,

Phil from all over...

And the guy on Ralph's forum. :-)

It was really PJPII and Mother Teresa that got me to really look at Catholicism beyond what my childhood parish represented (and I hated).

Oh, and my father who told me not to look at the people but the religion. I didn't listen when he said it, but it finally sunk in.

Joan

Most assuredly it was my beloved Grandmother first and then my Mom. My Grandmother could be found in the same spot every morning, bright and early; On her knees kneeling beside her bed, praying for everyone before she began her day.
