I'm not sure I understand the question. Are you asking if the CC allows us to go to the doctor, have surgery, and stuff like that?
If I have the question right, the answer is yes. The CC in RI has hospitals and nursing homes. I had a test done at the hospital early this year.
The CC definitely advocates taking care of our health and curing what's wrong when it's possible.

I'm sorry, I'm not sure what you are asking. Are you asking for example, if a person who cannot walk and prays to a saint and then he can walk again?
Are you asking if a person cannot walk and he goes to one of those people who have healing powers and when they touch him with their hands, and he would be able to walk again.Are you asking if the Catholic Church believes in that type of healing???

Yes I am referring to specific healing aside going to a doctor or a hospital. "Laying on of hands" etc. And does it have to be a saint that one prays to for healing? If so, why.

I don't know if the Catholic Church still believes in the "Laying on of Hands". But when I was younger it did. I remember going to my church back in 1981, when I was 14. It was a special service and people lined up and went up to the front of the church. I remember I went up and when the person layed his hand on my head. I passed out. There were people talking in tongues. I do know however, that even though my diocese allowed this, it was up to the parish priest. Some priests allowed it and others did not.
I did see your post about the pope. I'll post my opinion later about Pope Benedict. I just got home and have to run out again.
About the saints, no it doesn't have to be a saint. People have prayed to Pope John Paul II, he was not made a saint yet. Catholics pray to a lot of people who are not saints. But, if two miracles happen and the Catholic church says it is a miracle. Then , that person who people prayed to will be made a saint.

Wow, the service you mentioned that you attended at age 14, doesn't sound like a Catholic service at all. Not any I've seen at least. That sounded more like a Penetcostal service.
Yes I was referring to praying for the sick, where the scripture says to "anoint with oil", as a sign of believing in "healing" for the sick or afflicted. I do believe in putting oil on the forehead of someone seeking healing. I believe God is able to heal a sick body, because he did create the body. However, in my Christian experience, where I have seen many pray for someone sick, that person has died. It tested my faith greatly. I was confused that we say "God heals" but then everyone I saw around me was dying, even though they are prayed for. I questioned God. I even became angry at one point after a dear friend, mother of a newborn, on her 30th birthday died. What made me even madder was the folks who were quick to say "Her faith wasn't strong enough"!!!! To her dying breath she believed God was Able to heal her. Why he would not caused me great questions and sorrow. I know at some point our faith must take over logic. My reasoning as I read the bible was : either God IS or he ISN'T. I couldn't deny that God IS! THerefore I must trust him to make the final decision. To have the final say. It's something I still find hard to deal with as I have recently, as recent as last week, seen friends die believing God is able to heal them. It's hard being human. St. Paul said: "The spirit is willing, but the body is weak". The flesh in me wants to question and doubt. I think it's okay to question God. For I see him as a loving tender God who longs for me to simply trust him sometimes.
Now, my question is, why do Catholics pray to people? (saints)? What power do they think the saints have in answering prayers? :)

It wasn't like a Catholic service. I guess that's why it was up to each priest in the diocese if he would allow such a service in his church.
I have to go, we have relatives visiting.They want to go to the local amusement park we live near (Knoebels) They have been here since Saturday.
I will answer your question later about praying to (people) saints, etc....
