Subject: A prayer request.

I'm not big on prayer requests--making them, I mean.

Today is an exception. My aunt (my godmother) is dying. She's in Hospice now, and they think she will die before tomorrow. I'm "on call" and will try to get there if they notice a drastic change. But they think that the next real change they'll see is death. They don't think she'll have a very noticable change that will tell them that her death will happen in an hour (or enough time for anyone to get there).

I'm thinking of just taking the night off and going to sit with her. She's in a coma, but maybe she can still hear us.

So, I'm just asking for prayers that she is at peace when she goes. Prayers after her death would also be appreciated.

Thank-you, everyone.

Joan

Aunt Mary is still with us. They called me at work on Wednesday night because she really didn't look good. She rallied, though, and looked better the longer I was there. After 5 hrs or so, it was obvious that nothing was going to happen, so I went home. When I saw her yesterday, she looked the same.

Aunt Mary is one tough lady. Always was. Doesn't everyone have an "Aunt Mary" figure in their family. :-)

I'm just now learning all that she did while she was in the nursing home (25 years). I'll post her obituary when it comes out. She's amazing.

Did I tell you that several days ago, knowing that she is dying, said that "I want to go see Billy." Billy is my father, her youngest brother, who died a little more than a year ago. Her parents and an older brother are also gone, but she wants to see Billy.

It's true, I think, that our little boys are always are little boys, no matter how old they get. My aunt is about 9 years older than my father. I bet she "mothered" him his whole childhood. Plus he was a adorable--the most amazing blue eyes I've *ever* seen, an impish grin, and blond curls. It's no wonder he melted everyone's heart. :-)

The Hospice people think that it won't be long now, but of course no one can tell for sure how long. Hospice is a wonderful organization. The care is even better than I thought it would be. They don't hesitate to medicate for pain. They put drops in her eyes because she spends a lot of time w/ her eyes open, but not blinking. They put cream on her lips to keep them from chapping. Her body is washed. Her hair is combed. Her clothes and bedding are changed frequently. And they check in on her so often that you would think she is one of their own relatives.

Thank-you, everyone. I'll keep you posted when things change.

Joan

[> Update -- Joan, 15:19:34 07/27/07 Fri [1] (ip68-0-253-131.ri.ri.cox.net/68.0.253.131)

My aunt died at 4 this afternoon. 2 of my sisters and I were with her.

Thank-you, everyone for your kind words here. An extra prayer on her behalf tonight would be so much appreciated.

I've never said so many Hail Mary's in my life. "pray for us now and at the hour of your death" is a very comforting petition.

Joan
