Subject: I need two readings by Wednesday morning

My aunt's funeral is Wednesday morning, and I need two readings--one from the OT and one from the NT. I'm picking up a book from church this morning that has a list of suggested readings. I guess there aren't that many, so it's not like looking through a book of 1,000 quotes or anything.

But I'm wondering if any of you can suggest a favorite reading of yours that would be appropriate for a funeral.

Barb, I'm guessing that you'll have an favorite from the OT. I've been to only one Jewish funeral, and I was so far in the back that I couldn't hear what they were saying. Not even sure that they have "readings" as such.

Any suggestions anyone can give me are greatly appreciated. I'm in panic mode--public speaking isn't my thing--and I'm frozen.

Joan

Here a some suggestions: O.T. Psalms 91 (one of my favorites) Psalms 27/// N.T. I Corinthians 15:51 through 58

I checked with the Church and they have a book of readings for funerals to choose from.

I'm choosing Maccabees 12:46-46 for me.

The NT verse you mentioned is included in the funeral book, so I'm picking that one. :-)

Once I get my large print Bible out of the car, I'm going to read the Psalms you listed.

Thank-you so much. The OT choice was easy, but I was lost on the NT. You don't know how much your help is appreciated--and needed.

Joan

and there have been no readings at any Jewish funeral I have attended. Sorry Joan, but I am certain your choices will be perfect ones. I am so sorry about your loss.
