Here is a report that illustrates the use of catheter during tonsillectomies. I think this is fairly common nowadays, but the catheter is often taken out and underwear put on againg before the kid is fully awake.

----------------------------------------------------

Preteen boy, USA, tosilectomy in big truck with possible pelvic procedure

I am male. As preteen 10-12 The procedure happened in North America.

The procedure happened in USA.The procedure occured in 2010 or later.I had tonsillectomy or adenectomy.in a small town where i live. A hospital in the nearest city brought a special truck to our town and if parents wanted to they could make an appointment for their kids to get their tonsils taken out for free.

SYMPTOMS AFTERWARDS

I had pain irritition or other problems in my mouth. I had pain irritation or other problems in my respiratory tract or lungs. My underwear beng messed up or other signs that I had been stripped naked at my lower body. When i woke up my underwear had been taken off.

ARRANGEMENTS AND ANESTESIA

They gave me gas through a mask.they put a mask on me and had me take deep breaths until i was under.

The procedure occured in a special car or ambulance. I had gotten Tonsillitis a few times off and on and my mom decided to make an appointment for me to have them out. My mom drove me to the mall parking lot where the truck was set up. nono

I was 12 and it happened in the summer before i started 8th grade in a special truck when i arrived at the truck my mom signed me in, then i was taken to a room where i was weighed and measured and given a gown to wear. After that i was taken to a little room to wait until it was time for my surgery. They had some toys and games me and some other kids could play with. I ended up talking to a friend of mine for a bit until he had to go for his operation

ARRANGEMENTS AFTERWARDS

Yeah i had one IV but i don't know what it was for. No breathing tube when I wole up just a mask but i was told i had one during the surgery. I had catheter they put one in just incase i had to pee during my operation. At least that's what they told me the reason for it and my underwear being off. Heart monitor. Yeah a nurse checked me to make sure i woke up. I was under the whole time

COMMENTS

This was probably done by the service called Ronald McDonalds Care Mobile or a similar service. The catheter alone might not indicate something more done than the tonsillectomy, but the behavior of the staff, and the eagerness to bring children in to the bus with the said purpose of tonsillectomy, suggest that they performed some more on the kids for research or surveillance. This was most probably a pelvic procedure.
