In reply to: Seth 's message, "..}Not Strong Enough{.." on 21:59:35 01/02/12 Mon

It had begun to rain steadily by the time the cab had pulled up in front of the police station, the outside temperatures dropping even more as the wind began to scream. It was a definite precursor of the winter to come...Nev had even thought she'd seen a couple snow flakes intermixed with the heavy drops of rain pattering on the windshield of the cab. She was glad to be making it back to Cascade before the roads became treacherous if it decided it wanted to sleet...she didn't think she could handle the type of delay it would cause. In her current frame of mind,it wouldn't have been surprising if she'd take to the road on foot in such a situation.

The ride had been the longest of her life. The cabbie had been unwilling to break 65 on the highway, and once they'd hit the mountains, he'd refused the gas pedal even more vehemently. She'd fought him on it, she'd begged, she'd pleaded...even going to far as to offering a ridiculously fat tip, all to no avail. When she'd realized she was out of luck on the speed factor, she'd slumped in her seat, thinking of just how crazy she was acting. Here she was, flashing her badge to get what she wanted--something she never did--all in a mad dash to get back to Cascade to profess her love to a man whom she wasn't certain felt the same about her. It was insane. She hadn't ever pulled a stunt like the one she'd pulled at the airport...yelling at people, making a scene...hell, she'd thrown her damned shoes somewhere in there, she realized as she looked down at her chilled toes. The really crazy thing was...it had felt good to let go, to let loose....to do something for herself for once.

She had to admit, she was the tiniest bit fearful of how Seth would take her return. She knew he'd be happy to have a few more days together...hell, with the kind of sex they had had over the month, what man wouldn't be happy for more of it? But how would he take it when she told him she didn't want just a few more days? That she was willing to let go of her career in New York and move to Cascade, all to be close to him? Even more...how would he react when she told him she was willing to do that because she loved him? She'd known him just a little over four weeks...and she'd fallen. Would that scare him? She hoped not, but a part of her expected it. Their parting had been bittersweet, but he hadn't begged her to stay. Hadn't even asked, for that matter. She nibbled her bottom lip nervously...oh, what a risk she was taking...

She was still surprised at how hard the realization that this wasn't some kind of infatuation had hit her. Blindsided would have been an accurate term, for she'd been totally unprepared for the fallout of her emotions. Pain had been expected--after all, she had shared so much with Seth since she'd rolled into town the previous month. It was only natural that she'd ache for him when he was gone. But this all-consuming need was another animal altogether. It felt as if she could not even drawn a proper breath until she could lay eyes to him again and leave no doubt about the feelings she had grown for him. If he turned her away? If he didn't feel the same? It would break her heart, she was sure of it--but at least she would have tried. The prospect of going back to the city, of carrying on as if she hadn't just fallen completely in love with a man thousands of miles away...she just couldn't do it. She couldn't condemn herself to a lifetime of wondering what might have been.

As the cab rolled to a stop, Nev all but threw a fistful of bills at the cabbie with a mutter of thanks before bolting through the rain and into the station, hissing as gravel poked the pads of her feet. She skidded to a stop as a stunning blonde looked up, eying her disheveled appearance critically. Nev offered her a shaky smile, her heart racing in anticipation and apprehension. She was aware that she must look like a mess, with her long, dark hair dripping, her clothes clinging to her slight frame, and shoeless to boot. Though in her fervent need to find Seth...she just didn't even care what she looked like! "I need...is..Where's Seth?" She stammered, only to find that she'd beat him here. She fell silent for a moment, simply staring at the blond. For some reason...finding out that she wasn't there was enough to make the momentarily over-emotional brunette burst into a bout of great, gasping tears-- having wanted so desperately to leap into his arms and tell him everything while she still had the courage to do so.

She'd learned that the blonde's name was Sabrina...and she'd been absolutely monumental to Nev getting herself back under control in the time that followed. The brunette was immensely grateful for the other' woman's understanding and hospitality, giving her towels to dry off with and a hot cup of coffee, all after listening with a sympathetic ear while Nev had had herself a good, cleansing cry. She'd gained some good advice, some good insight into the man she'd fallen for...and felt a little stronger by the time she had settled in front of the window with her coffee to wait for him.

It seemed like a lifetime had passed her by before her whiskey gaze locked on to the familiar sight of Seth's jeep as it pulled into the parking lot. She very nearly dumped her coffee all over herself as her nerves claimed her again, causing her to shake with apprehension, anticipation...and just a hint of insecurity. She hadn't quite decided if Seth would deem her too much of a 'city-folk' to be with him...had been pondering that possibility when he'd pulled in, in fact...and it had even more strung out than she had been before. Setting her coffee cup on the closest available surface, she shot Sabrina a wide-eyed look. "He's here!" She gasped, rising to her feet as she looked back out the window, noticing her heart had begun to positively thunder in her chest as she finally laid her eyes back on the man she'd gone through all of this to get back to. As she watched him, she trembled with the urge to simply run back out into the drizzle and find the solstice she so desperately sought in those colorful, muscled arms.

He was beautiful to her, even standing out there in the mist as he locked his jeep. Even from this distance, she could see that he looked like he was in an absolute bear of a mood, and wasn't surprised to find her body reacting to the sight of it. There was something so feral about that look, something dangerous...but moreover, it gave her a fierce sense of hope that he would be receptive to the things she needed to say.

Somehow, she managed to stay the urge to run out there barefoot, to meet him in the rain before he'd even managed to finish locking up his truck. Instead, she moved slowly...counting footsteps instead of breaths this time as she made her way to the door of the station. She came to a stop, just to the side of the door he'd be entering within the next few seconds, hugging her arms around her slender midsection as the seconds spanned out before her. Anticipation had it's place, she decided...and this wasn't one of them. If ever time had been a source of torture, surely this was it.

Touch me I'm cold
Unable to control
Touch me I'm golden
And wild as the wind blows
And tumbling tumbling
Don't go, fascination
If just for tonight darling,
