For me a qualified teacher is one that understands Irish dance beyond what it is trendy. They can explain what makes a light jig a light jig, or the difference between a hornpipe treble sequence and a treble jig treble sequence. Their slip jigs don't look like reels, they look like slip jigs. And they can explain the difference. They can explain how to do proper catches in ceili dancing.

Because they could have a great memory and really understand cild development and be in awesome shape, butbif they don't understand what makes Irish dance Irish dance are they really qualified? And if they do understand Irish dance at that level then how are they not qualified just because they didn't take a test?
