I am looking for a price range I have located a pulsar 2 with about an inch of dust on it interior looks good just old the avionics are very out dated but there is a garmin in there. The exterior looked really pretty good still very glossy and the engine is a jabiru 2200A I have no idea what the ACTT is or what the engine times are. Any range of numbers would be great. I do have pictures but no idea how to post them or if its possible.

Hi Guys, I'm looking to join the club, but I haven't (yet) got a Pulsar. They certainly tick a lot of boxes. I'd appreciate a heads-up if one is available. And if anyone in the West Sussex area fancies demonstrating their virtues, I'd be really pleased to come along for a ride. :-)

Hi Guys,
I was wondering if any of you knew the whereabouts of my old Pulsar XP G-EPOX. I sold her back in 2011 but never completed the re-registration to the new owner. (My bad!). I believe she was flown down to Wing Farm in Wiltshire, but after that she has never been re-permitted and I'm guessing, never flown again. I ask because I would be interested in possibly buying her back if she was for sale and the price was right :-)

Here's hoping someone might be able to help.

Regards to you all....

Hi, I'm new to this site & I wanted to introduce myself as the new owner of the Pulsar 3 G-BYJL.
I have been going over her with a fine tooth comb in the last few weeks and after not being able to calibrate my fuel gauges I have decided to fit an FF1 Fuel flow meter with a red cube Flow sender. Before I contact the LAA to see if this has to be registered as a mod I wondered if anybody knew of, or has carried out a similar fitting?

I think the main undercarriage on my Pulsar 582 tail-dragger might benefit from being set a bit further forward. At the moment the tail-wheel keeps skipping off the ground during landing even when the stick is right back, so I am concerned that if the brakes were to snatch or if the ground is too soft it could even nose right over.
If any tail-wheel owners could advise the tail-wheel weight they recorded during their latest weighing this would help me to see if I'm worrying unnecessarily.
Many Thanks

Bob

Just purchased a Pulsar 3 with 130 hours on it, took a test flight today and I'm a little concerned about the stall speed. It has the Jabiru 2200 engine and I found that I power off stalled with no flaps at around 70 mph which seems quite fast, did a power off stall with flaps and it brought it down to around 65, I've done a lot of reading and the manual states a stall of 47 mph of which we were no where close to. Am I missing something? HELP

Hi All,
As you've probably aware via AFORS, I've put my TD Mk1 Pulsar up for sale. Unfortunately, the field I fly from has deteriorated so much that I just can't fly safely from there, especially two-up.

I've been surprised at the lack of serious interest in my advert - I haven't even had any time wasters! Any comments?

Dave

(Note: I'm still building an XP, though if I don't relocate I will probably not fly that from my home airfield, so maybe that would have to go as well!)

Has anyone made access ports in the bottom cowling,at first sight the ideal position for these would foul the engine bearers.

Hi all.
Some while back, one of your Pulsar operators noticed that a modification was done to the canopy tracks. Instead of using the nylon roller, a "roller bearing" approached was installed. This operator does not recall how it was done. However, would like to apply this change to his Pulsar. Whoever has done this mod, can you please PM me, and I will put you in contact.
Thank you.
Merry Xmas to you all from us both. Have a good New Year.

Tried the oil can trick to push fluid up from the bleeder and still can't seem to get the normal pedal like I had. Pedal just seems spongy and wants to go all the way to the floor. Line goes from wheel up to master cylinder on pedal then goes on to reservoir on the firewall. Any ideas?

With regret after sorting this Pulsar out, I've got no choice but to sell it.
The dream of flying with over to France and beyond with my wife will never happen - not in the Pulsar anyway. She has a bad back and a shoulder injury and just finds it too uncomfortable getting in and more so extracting herself from the cockpit. Therefore she fees a bit trapped once in.
It's a pity, flying it lately I've become quite attached to it. It will cruise comfortably at 125-130 mph. Fast cruise 140 mph. easy to land although it does eat up the runway if a little too fast. All I'll be doing is flying solo and with the odd flying club member who are not too tall and heavy to get in it.
This is crux of the problem. My wife and I being are both small build so this aircraft was an ideal size. Some of my friends who would love to share the cost are just too tall and their knees are bashing the instrument panel.
Now that the wife has made it clear she doesn't want to get in it the aircraft, the Pulsar had become another expensive toy.. If I'm flying solo I'd rather take my Cassuttt racer and have a bit fun tearing up the clouds.
The intention was to sell the Cassutt and enjoy a bit of touring but now sadly it's got be the Pulsar.
Advertised on Afors. One chap from Scotland has flown down to looked at it and flown ini it and was impressed with its performance, but he wants to spend over £4k on upgrading the radio and fit a mod S transponder. Dropping to £12k if I meet him half way is bit much to chew when I paid £17k for it. So the closer to £14k the better.

the answer to the pulsar radiators problem i.e where did they come from originally the answer is from a ford Enoline Club Wagon, size is 2"x8"x7.75" & they are still available from summit racing in the states, google their site, under heater cores look for part number 399006 these are the right ones as I have bought & fitted a pair & working fine, thanks for all your help in the UK & the USA forum, what we do without each other & emails eh.

Hi
I'm New to forum. I've just bought a Pulsar 582 version modified with a Jabiru.
The LAA inspector has noticed excessive play in the top rudder hinge bolt.

There appears to be a captive nut riveted to the bracket but the I/4 inch unf nut appears too small and does not engage the threads of the nut. So the builder put a castle nut and split bin to retain it.

But the inspector is not happy with the play. Does any pulsar builder have any details of the correct bolt size bolt .
I've tried 5/16 unf bolt -but that's too big .

Many thanks Kelvin

Hi Group.

I have an XP builder that needs to change out the instrument panel (it has been cut out for analogue, but now needs to fit modern digital). This panel being original AD composite sheet.

The composite sheet is no longer available.
So have any of you used a different material? If so, can you advise.

Does anyone know where the original radiators fitted to the mk1 582 pulsar came from? & is there a uk equivalent rad that could be used, as mine are giving me nothing but trouble the header tank baffles on both rads keep leaking past causing engine to get to 185 on climb out (9 not good) both rads have been repaired twice now for the same problem.

Subject: Tightening Main Undercarriage Bolts

Author:
BobP
[ Edit | View ]

Date Posted: Fri, May 23 2014, 23:23:55 GMT

My 582 taildragger has an aluminium Grove Undercarriage, and from time to time the (2 each side) attachment nuts and bolts work slightly loose. Its not very loose but enough to make a clunking noise if the plane is rocked back and forth with the wheels chocked. I think they work loose because the Grove attachment lugs rotate slightly as the undercarriage flexes.

Tightening the front attachment bolt is easy as both bolt head and nut are accessible, but the rear bolt has a countersunk head with a screwdriver slot, so its a two person operation and you have to remove the wings to get to the countersink. Tightening is made more difficult because the aero stiffnut tries to turn the bolt with the nut.

To overcome this problem I have now replaced each stiffnut with two plain nuts. I fit and tighten one nut first and then fit and tighten the second nut with loctite applied to that nut only. There's only enough thread for it to go on 3-4 turns but that should be enough to stop the first nut coming loose. Using plain nuts I've also found that I can avoid needing a second person and taking the wings off. Instead I run a ratchet strap between the bottom of the undercarriage leg (near the wheel) and the rear of the fuselage (just above the tailwheel rod). Tightening the strap (not too tight!!) grips the bolt shaft and prevents it from rotating as the nut is tightened.

Hi all.

Went flying last week, started well and ran sweet as a nut for over an hour. Did a mag drop on shutdown and all was in limits.

Had a cup of tea, then thought I'd go for another whizz. The 582 just would not start, cranking well but no life in it at all. Flattened the battery cranking it over. Charged battery fully and tried again. Engine started at once, went for a 40 minute blast- landed and shutdown for about half an hour. When I tried to start it again it just would not start at all again!!

Once started, the engine runs beautifully in the air with no problems at all.

The charger suggested the battery was duff so I replaced it with a new one today. It wouldn't even turn the engine over, as though the new battery was flat. Tried a booster pack which spun it up just fine but still won't start. No spark at the plugs on either magneto!! Perhaps the new battery is a duffer, but even when cranked fast with the booster there was no sign of life.

Any ideas, or am I finally going potty??

I actually went flying yesterday, and I saw, 'The Sun'. I was beginning to wonder if I would ever see it again after a 4 month break. Still a bit muddy but workable. It's the longest period of non flying I can remember.

Pretty scary as I lined up. "Can I still do it", was racing through my tiny brain! It was near perfect conditions, 30 miles viz, bright and sunny. Fantastic.

I like flying in my Pulsar, it's great!

Hi,

I'm building an XP, and have just finished the wings.

The kit was originally owned by Kevin Widdowson, and he constructed the LE sections including the wing tanks and coated them with grey "jollop". I'm sure everything necessary was done properly, but this part of the build was probably ten or more years ago.

Question:- What experience have XP owners had with fuel proofing as per the original design? As I put these tanks into service, should I be full of confidence or otherwise?

What modifications, if any, would you advise?

Dave

Pulsar flaps seem to provide drag, but not much lift.

I normally take off without any flap. There doesn't appear to be much benefit when 20 deg flaps are used and the extra drag on climb out is noticeable. I wonder what all you Pulsators think.

Do you use flap on take off or not? If you do, what merits or otherwise would you cite?

Seasonal felicitations to you all, may 2014 bring sunny skies and light winds.
Rob.

My Mk1 (wood spars) Pulsar has inspection covers under the wings to allow the aileron bell cranks to be accessed. I want to add some inspection holes to access the flap cranks, and wondered where they should be located to give good visibility whilst avoiding anything that might be bonded to the inside of the wing skin.

Any ideas

Recently my 582 engine has become difficult to start (it used to start first time everytime). New plugs, correctly gapped helped, but I was almost stranded at my recent visit to Pound Green. In the end I shut one of the plug gaps down to around 0.10" to get the engine to start.

I think the problem may be caused by the battery getting a bit tired, not helped by it being much smaller than recommended (a Motobatt 5AH battery). Whilst it worked well for around 12 months it has had a hard life because I let it go flat a couple of times (left master switch on) and because my regulator (now replaced) would periodically try to stuff 17 volts into it).

I did some checks yesterday and the engine started first time (the plug gaps were restored to normal). But with the mags turned off the battery voltage when the engine was cranking was just 10 volts (and virtually the same voltage across the starter motor). The engine was turning at 590 rpm true (shown as 650 rpm on my Avia rpm meter).

Does anyone have any info on what the cranking voltage or RPM should be to ensure a reliable start?

Many Thanks

Bob

The runway is 400mts long grass and 1000 msl. Do you mind it is possible to take of and land here?
Wich is the stall speed of this plane?
What is the VNE of this plane?
I would aprecciate very much all information you can provide me.

Hello all, my first post here!
Just had my tailwheel Pulsar 582 permit inspected today & the inspector commented that one of the "pip pins" that secure the wing spars has the head somewhat "mullered" by a previous heavy handed owner/engineer.
I believe they are 5/8" dia, but can't find a length for them & would obviously prefer to have a replacement available b4 trying to remove the old one.
Can anyone confirm the size & where to get one from?

My local airstrip (Stoke Golding 19 miles N of Coventry) is having its annual fly-in (The Stakeout) on 20th-21st July, and all aviators (and non flying enthusiasts) are very welcome to attend. There is free overnight camping available so that visitors can enjoy the Saturday evening entertainment and have a drink or two... or three or four. Its a very informal, lay-back friendly event, with plenty of things going on, aerobatic displays, food etc etc. The strip is really well maintained with very low hedges and no obstacles (trees) on the approaches. Details and PPR are available on www.stokegoldingairfield.co.uk Let me know if you intend to visit ( 07926 055 027) so we can perhaps meet up.

On the same subject I’ve reposted the following message by Rob Freestone in case anyone missed it.

---------
“Thanks to Tony and Alan for organising a great day out. The weather was just right, the exquisitely cooked burgers, hardly any headwind on the way back, warm dry and sunny all day. Marvellous. A cracking day out and nice to meet up with Pulsators old and new.

Perhaps, if the summer is going to play ball at last, we could have another one. I'd be happy to host it, or perhaps a group fly out to the Isle of Wight for a day on the beach at Sandown?

Where were all the other Pulsars?”
-------
Sandown is good for me (Bob P) – or one of the free landings in the LAA mag. There is a free landing at Oaksey Park (near Kemble) this month (July 2013).

They are also conduction other flypasts in the general area during the day. So best to check the latest Notams before getting airborne.

It's been tricky getting lead free and ethanol free fuel for my Rotax 582 Pulsar. The problem was made worse by the CAA only approving Mogas in group A aircraft that conforms to EN228 (as well as being ethanol free). Most (all?) regular mogas in the UK contains ethanol.

However I read in the latest (July 2013) LAA mag (page 49) that the definition of EN228 mogas has now been expanded to include "super plus" mogas. Some brands/suppliers of this fuel (eg BP Ultimate from my local garage) are totally ethanol free.

It is more expensive than regular mogas, but because of the higher octane rating has the further advantage of keeping a bit longer before detonation problems might occur.
