Subject: I agree with you. It’s an open title, no requirements so they are not breaking any rules. This state has been without a director since before the national pageant. So they need a titleholder who is independent, resourceful, capable and self-sufficient. Let’s not forget the Volunteer pageant is only in its fifth year. It’s still growing so there’s always going to be potential for development and changes. But let’s try to be more supportive of the remarkable women who are taking on this challenge.

[> [> [> [> [> Subject: This was my thought! I didn't mean to sound like I was picking on her, but they've had native Miss Michigan Volunteers before, so why would they give Lydia the title? If they wanted to give her an opportunity at nationals, they could've given her a state like Maine or Nebraska that hasn't had consistent representation.

Date Posted: Fri February 28, 2025 17:26:39 The national pageant may be 6 months away, but there is preparation that must go into it. Including program books, judges books, etc. Things that can't be put off that long. The national office does a search for someone WITHIN the state that needs a titleholder first. IF no one wants it or able to do it, then they open up the search to persons outside that state, so that it has a representation on the national stage. If my understanding is correct, there are multiple states that had to have an "at-large" rep wear the title. It's not that big of an issue, stop complaining and help find someone from the area yourself so an "instate" girl can represent. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |
[> [> [> Subject: I’ve also wondered this about Haleigh Hurst. How did she win Virginia when she’s from Texas and goes to college in Oklahoma. I heard she got accepted to law school in VA next year, but that wouldn’t qualify her for this year. And don’t believe online classes count either. And they even held a pageant with quite a few girls in it. Seems like Volunteer bends the rules for those they like.

[> [> [> [> Subject: That's what I'm afraid of. I've been a volunteer girl through and through because of all the drama with MAO, but if they're gonna start blatantly picking and choosing girls for states instead of trying to grow a state Pageant, that's a huge bummer.

[> [> [> [> Subject: I’ve wondered this myself. Don’t get me wrong, I love Haleigh and think she will probably win the national title, but I feel bad for the other girls who competed in the VA pageant who did meet the qualifications. Because it’s clear that Haleigh didn’t. She’s a Texas girl through and through. Not sure why she didn’t just compete in that state.

[> [> [> [> Subject: Haleigh is a super sweet girl, and I agree that she will probably win the national title. Her 1RU would’ve held her own though. Girl can SING. But she is brunette, and I think they want another blonde.

[> [> [> [> [> Subject: I wanted to comment on this because from what I heard was Haleigh was recruited at the national pageant last year by the va board… again that’s weird to me due to the fact the girl never lived in Virginia she apparently applied for liberty to do a certificate instead of a degree and if anybody knows anything about liberty it’s a 99% acceptance. In the end va seemed fishy this year from the fact they recruited a girl who has connections with national sponsors at the national competition

[> [> [> [> [> [> Subject: I understand where you are coming from. However, all directors recruit for their pageants. This is nothing new to the pageant industry. You see it every year with Miss USA and Miss America as well. If anything I think it proves Haleigh is a serious competitor and wants to win the national pageant. And if you have been following her she is getting a full degree, not a certificate degree at Liberty. I don't think the Virginia Directors or the national pageant would let her compete if she was ineligible. But, that is just my opinion and we are all entitled to our own. I can't wait to see how nationals will pan out.

[> [> [> [> [> [> Subject: That’s interesting. I heard she was recruited by the Oklahoma director and was planning on competing there until the scandal with him came to light. Two girls two years in a row accusing him of harassment resulting in his removal after nationals. I don’t blame her for no longer wanting to compete in OK but why not just compete in Texas where’s she’s from?

[> [> [> [> [> [> [> Subject: I also heard that as well. I don't know what titleholder would want to work with him after that. So I don't blame her whatsoever for not taking the Oklahoma title. As for Texas, I'm not sure. I know her parents still live there but I don’t know her post grad plans besides law school. Maybe its deeper than people realize? I'm not sure but where ever she lives, she's killing it.

[> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> Subject: I don’t blame her for that either. But she does not live in va as she is still in OK for school and is doing “online” but again I don’t think it’s a degree due to the amount of times she’s said the major there is no major if that for liberty unless it’s under the certificate. The tie to va is just weird but again the va board seems to do anything they want to have a winner
