When I decide a spanking is needed, I will always bare them myself, removing their clothes from the waist down. If I am spanking more than one child, I will bare all of them. And then I will lecture. How long I do so, will depend on the age of the child. With the older children, I will usually have a question and answer session. "And why is Grandma spanking you? What is it you did that was naughty?" After they tell me. I will usually ask "And why do you deserve this spanking?" I want for them to fully understand why they are being spanked.

With the younger children, I won't lecture too much and won't even do a question and answer session. They are usually already crying so hard at that point they wouldn't be able to focus and answer anything, anyways. Never mind they are just too young. They still get a lecture, albeit brief, but I just come right out and tell them exactly why Grandma is spanking them.

I have been spanking since my mid-teens, over 40 years, so my spankings have definitely done some evolving in that time. But I have been a hairbrush and wooden spoon spanker for a almost all of those years. Of course when the children have been really young, I have only used my hand.

But the process of how I spank has remained relatively unchanged in that time. Meaning, I have always bared bottoms (with some very rare exceptions) and always have taken them over my lap to be spanked. Whether they are 8 or 18 (or older). I feel bare is best. It of course stings more, which I feel a good and proper spanking needs to hurt a lot, but it also lets the child know who is in charge, this is how they will be spanked and they have no say in the matter.

As for the spanking itself, I always start with a good hand spanking. My hand spankings are always quite intense. I spank rapid fire and very hard. I know some will start with a more mild hand spanking, just to get it started for an implement, but my feelings have always been the hand is very much part of the overall punishment of the spanking, so I feel it is something that needs to be just as unpleasant.

And the children always let me know loudly how my hand spankings are. "It huuuuurts soooooo muuuuch Graaammaaa!" or how they "caaan't taaake annymooree!!" But I am just fine with that, and even satisfied in hearing it as their reaction just lets me know my spanking is doing it's job correctly. It should be hurting a lot! There is of course already plenty of bawling, wailing and screaming along with an abundance of tears and snot in the hand portion alone.

When I go to the spoon or hairbrush (depending on the age/size of child I am spanking), I do slow it down somewhat. But I still do not spank slowly by any means. I spank at a brisk pace while smacking randomly. And where I do not spank as hard as I did with my hand, I still spank hard. The brush, or spoon, still cracks solidly with each swat. And the children have certainly let me know vociferously how hard it feels!

After smacking randomly for a short while, I will then pick a location and give a good 5-6 rapid and harder swats in that one location, and then switch back to my brisk, randomly smacking, then pick another spot, and so on. Choosing those spots really gets the children loud and hysterical, especially if I choose the location on their upper thighs. But I don't stop the spanking until I feel the message has been sent and they receive what I feel is an appropriate punishment for their misbehavior.

I do not count when I spank, but I have always felt sound and very thorough spankings are extremely important, so they are never short ordeals. The children have complained often that I "spank forever!" or they thought "the spanking would never end!" And to me that is just fine, as those are just normal complaints from what I feel a good and proper spanking should feel like.

When I am finished, as I indicated in Becky's thread on talking about the color/condition of the bottom after a spanking, their bottom and thighs are always a deep, apple to maroon red. And there is always some marking (bruising), as well, even with standard spankings. But that is just going to happen when spanking long and hard and using a solid, wooden implement (which both my spanking spoon and hairbrush are). And the children are of course crying buckets of tears and snot. It just seems to never end! We go through a LOT of Kleenex in this house. :) But all of the above is the end result of a good, proper and thorough spanking in my home.
