We have a house rule (agreed and supported by the kids: "For children it's clean bare feet only in the house", that includes their guests. It was quite fun at the birthday parties with all the cheerful bubbly barefoot kids!

>And you as parents are often barefoot?

In the house and in the garden in summer yes, but unlike our children we put on shoes or sandals to go out, I'll take them off in the park or other places to relax though. It just seems like barefoot children are a lot more accepted in shops and other public places, and as an adult I would feel odd going there completely barefoot.

I admire my son and daughter as they decided to go out barefoot even on chilly, sometimes rainy spring days that would definitely be too cold for me to even consider sandals. But when I asked them they gave me a big grin and said they're fine, I guess they're happy to be able to do something the adults don't. Their little bare feet, peeking out under warm sensible clothes, will turn a healthy rosy pink and after coming home in the evening, have a marvellous afterglow.

But that's fine, when I feel cold it doesn't mean the children have to feel the same. For me it's only comfortable to go barefoot when the ground feels warm, and I prefer to protect my feet from the city roads. As a child I was barefoot more often as well.
