Before my husband and I got married, we discussed how we would raise and discipline our children. We were both brought up in the Christian schools and church. We were both spanked growing up, even past our teen years. His last spanking was from his Dad for driving and drinking underage at the age of 19. My last spanking was at the age of 21, one before our wedding for sassing and back talking Mom. We were both 21 when we got married.
We decided that the discipline we received from our Parents did us good and that we would raise our children in the same way. Unfortunately my husband was killed in a auto accident when the kids were still toddlers. I decided to still raise the children in the Christian church and that spanking would still be given to my children.
I started over the knee spanking when they each reached the age 4 with hand only. When each reached the age of 7, I started using one of those fly back paddles that had a ball attached to it. At the age of 12, I started using the back of my hair brush and when they turned 14 and still using a wood paddle that I bought at our church.
As for as rituals when giving a spanking, Until they reached the age of 12, I would undress them from the waist down. Once they were 12, they were made to undress in front of me as I lectured them and that is still in place today. They are then helped over my knee were they receive a thorough hand and paddle spanking, (age appropriate). Now that my daughter are 19 and 16 and my sons are 17 and 15, spankings are not as common as they were when they were younger.
My 16 yr old daughter, I would say right now is spanked the most for her attitude, backtalk and sassing. She has been averaging a spanking every two to three weeks. All four know that as long as I am supporting them and they live under my roof, I will not hesitate to spank them no matter their age.
