Good or bad we need examples of history in order to learn. Leave history changing to the Texas Board of Education to re write history in our school books.
As a California Indian I had a glimmer of joy when two statues of Junipero Serra were pulled down. Most or all of you may not know him but he was a Franciscan fryer of the Catholic church who set up the missions in California and was in recent years given sainthood.
If you have read along, here is my point. Without his statue who would ask, who is that man and what did he do?
He enslaved and subjugated native people with forced labor and punishment. So without his statue or me saying it who would know or take the time to research it. Thanks Jackie.
