I was thinking myself that I would love a penpal!!! LOL Ok, I will admit it...I was being selfish and really wanting to learn about New Zealand!! LOL But, hey they kids would love it too!! lol

We were in a group..but we ran out of time! lol Jake is in Boy Scouts and does year round sports..Kylie is in dance and does year round sports. We have their cousins over (who also homeschool) over every week. Plus, we go to church on Sundays..but that is basically about 20, 80 year olds! lol It was my Grandmas church and she invited us one weekend and the kids LOVED it! They love being around older people and they just love the pastor at this church. They are the only children there so they get plenty of attention and are very spoiled. Ohhhed and ahhhhed over! I have a great article about socialization I will send you! It pretty much sums up what to say to people who ask about the "s" word!

We do not follow a *set* curriculum at all. I use many different things...and we mainly just go with the flow. I go at the kids pace. My mom bought Kylie the Hooked on Phonics program for Christmas and she LOVES it! I always thought it looked pretty lame....and heard all the jokes about it..but it really does work! I have seen such a big difference in Kylies reading since using it. She is catching on much easier using this program. She is only in first grade so we are doing just basic stuff right now, so I make up a lot of my own worksheest for her on the computer with cool fonts and pictures. I actually enjoy making them. Plus, the internet has SOO many wonderful FREE sites to get worksheets and such from. Jake has amath book we got from the public school here..they were throwing some out that were kind of rugged looking...and a friend of the family grabbed them up. They looked rugged but are just what he needs. So it works for us! Plus, I use my own things..but get the basic concept of what he shoudl be learning, know what I mean? I also went to the World Book site an dlooked up what each grade level should know for each subject and make up unit studies and such. They always get a lot opf workbook and school type things for birthdays and Christmas, so I get ideas out of them and then make up my own or add to them. Plus, they will give me other ideas of things I could do. So far it has worked out well for us. I am lucky to have my cousins that have homeschooled though so we use alot of things they used. I also make copies of everything that Jake does so Kylie can use the book later on instead of him writing in the books.
I try to keep it as *fun* as I can..but still get the book work in there. We do what we can oraly and hands on..but they still have the paper and pencil stuff too.

The most satisfying for me is the *AH HA* momments. When they really *get* what they are doing. When Jake or Kylie is working hard on something and you can just see the *lightbulb* go off! Their whole faces light up. I love the fact that they LOVE to learn. I love the fact that it is ME that is teaching them...I get such pride out of watching Kylie read her books and to knwo that I was the one who guided her through it...and or when Jake is counting out his money and I know that it was *I* who taught him how to count it! Etc, etc...

I have a TON of school links! Give me your email again..I will start sending you some stuff! What do you guys do? Do you follow a curriculum? What are the *laws* there?? Do you guys have to test etc?

If you want a pen pal let me know! lol I would love to exchange things from our home lands!! I know the kids would LOVE it too!
