For the "bones" Marlene the things that I've had the best success with are natives - they are already designed to cope with the climatic conditions after all. Then you get to jazz it up with all the pretty annuals and try and sneak in something sinfully, expensively exotic that you pay a fortune for at a garden centre or catolouge and nurse along although the worst of the summer while those natives just keep on truckin' along and laughing at all the silly, fluffy things surrounding their bases.. ;) That way you should be sure to always have *something* in dem der pots even if you get distracted or fed up with them for a time.

Other suggestions include lovely lavender (more for the perfume than anything else), hardy and flamboyant geraniums are almost a "must have" to fill out pots in the sun. There's a heap more... I might reserve the right to come back to this thread :) but I also wanted to say that I was thinking the other day that pot gardening would be a great way for you to get the colour that you're missing back into your "Mack attack" *G* garden. :)

I'm still waiting for pic's of the rock collection BTW. ;)
