Subject: You bet I'm a believer!
In reply to: Jessica 's message, "I TOTALLY believe in that stuff." on 20:33:19 07/02/01 Mon

I have many things to say about this subject but it would take me days to type them all. I don't really believe the idea of white sheeted ghosts woo wooing themselves around haunted houses, but rather presences, smells and strange things occurring that could not possibly occur by accident.

My father is quite psychic, not in the "I predict a handsome stranger and you're gonna win lotto" kind of way, but more he feels things and is very attuned to the world around him. For example, he knows when I am sad and crying and will often ring me up because he says he can "hear" me. I think that this gift has been passed to me to some extent, but not as strongly as my dad.

When I was a child and we moved to Brisbane from Cairns, dad could feel a presence with me, watching over me as a little girl. He thought it was my maternal grandmother who had died when I was 2 years old. Anyway, as I got older, I could feel her too - it would be a smell, a feather light touch on my shoulder and just a feeling that someone was there, although none of this was ever scary. I felt protected, loved and safe. My dad travelled through a small town in North Queensland on his way to Cairns for a holiday a couple of years ago and was searching in a cemetery for a grave of one of his relatives. He felt that strong presence that he thought was my maternal grandmother and it led him to a gravestone. He did not recognise the name on the gravestone but took note of it and explored the family tree. The grave/presence belonged to my great great great maternal grandmother, she came out to Australia as a convict from England, having to leave her family behind. It's funny, because nobody ever knew that she had come out (except for those of the same era who are now dead). I still feel her sometimes today and I intend to stop her grave when I next travel up that way.

I was also very close to my paternal grandfather and, even though he died 11 years ago, feel he is with me every day. A couple of months ago, mum and I were watching bad t.v. at her place in the rumpus room (my stepdad was watching something else in the family room). The spare belonged to my grandfather and is one of those huge old contraptions with proper timber framing that doesn't have a remote control. Mum and I were talking about him (her dad) when all of a sudden, the tv changed channels on its own, with no apparent reason such as electrical fault/surge etc. We were both speechless as you can imagine, yet very touched at the same time.

Also - this is a really special one - the day after Ross' dad died, he came home to find an white faced barn owl inside his house which was completely locked up with all windows closed. The owl sat in the corner above his dad's favourite chair and stared at Ross for a couple of minutes. Ross moved forward carefully and was going to catch it in a sheet when the owl jumped down and landed on Ross' wrist. He took it outside and carefully let it go. The owl hung around his house for about a week, as though it were watching the place intently. Ross believes that the owl was something from his dad, to say that everything was okay. I was bawling by the time Ross had finished telling me this story. I should also add that owls aren't very common around here this bird flew in from somewhere far away.

That's it from me, sorry it's so long. I'm extremely interested to read what everyone else has to say on this subject.
