Pat Frank's Alas Babylon. But it is about nuclear war and the aftermath rather than natural causes. Much of it is set in my areas of Florida. Jacksonville gets bombed off the face of the earth, but I'm not sure that's a bad thing *evil grin* And of course it is entirely fiction or I would not be writing this. LOL!!!

A Canoe in the Mist is out of print. But they have a used copy at Amazon...
