Subject: Mounted Police on horseback
In reply to: M.C. 's message, "I'll come back to this..." on 06:01:28 06/02/01 Sat

M.C.'s post reminded me of the Garlic Festival we have here every summer. It's a 3 day event and at the end of each day, when it's time to close down.........the people that just come to drink too much and start fights, don't want to leave. Every year, it was the same thing, with the police getting involved in fights and having to make arrests. After 2-3 years of that....some of the officers that have horses started working and training together and developed a mounted patrol. Now every year, about an hour before time to close down.....several of the guys and gals ride in and make their presence known. If a fight breaks out, the horses literally "wade-in" and it is immediately over.

It is also a great PR thing for the Police Department.....everyone loves the horses.
