I'm a California native (born here). It's hard to pin down "one" thing about California - we are a BIG state, probably take up 3/4 of the Pacific Coast of the U.S.

Southern California started it's claim to fame with oranges and Hollywood (American movies and movie stars). Warm desert sunshine and surfers - "it never rains in California".

The Northern portion of the state meets Oregon and it snows there and is mountainous.(sp?)

San Francisco and the nearby mountains is where gold was discovered and Levi's (jeans) got their start (for the goldminers - the first ones were made from the sails of ships.)

Where I live now, about the middle of the state - 30 miles from the coast, we are the famous Silicon Valley (Computers!) recent birthplace of "Dot Com" millionaires. And my actual little town is famous for Garlic - we are the self-proclaimed Garlic Capital of the world!

Where I would "rather" live........where I was raised on the coast - the way it was "then". Pacific Grove, a small beachtown, founded as a Methodist retreat (no alcohol sold until about 1960). I spent my youth climbing around the rocky foggy beaches, swimming in the heated salt-water swimming pool and hunting hermit crabs, starfish, eels and Cabazones (little fish) in the tidepools. Walking the railroad tracks to Cannery Row (the one made famous by Steinbeck). But it has changed now into a busy, very expensive place where you must be affluent to live.

The place I would live now if I could..........Kauai. (But someone would need to turn off the hurricane machine)!
