Your take on the lack of good Sci-Fi is quite true, IMHO. The emphasis of today's television is on what I call stupid and ludicrous attempts at entertainment. The Big Brother, Reality shows, talent shows (with or without any real talent), Bachelor/Bachelorette and even one on dogs are inane, mindless and in all reality just a plain waste of time and brain power.

I hear parents complain about their kids misbehaving, attitudes and disrespect. Bickering and taking sides are things kids and teens do. What on earth are adults doing supporting these sorts of shows?! As a teacher and parent I have found that kids and teens can be cruel and mean enough all on their own. They don't need to get any more ideas or reinforcement from this kind of television.

My point is that even when a good show comes along, a lot of people I know won't watch becausse they don't want to have to think. They just want to sit back, watch and be entertained without having to pay attention, listen carefully to the dialogue and heaven forbid, follow a complex storyline or plot. Good Sci-Fi requires that you do just that--think, listen and try to figure out what is gong to happen. I have a sick feeling that television is going to only get worse before it might have a chance to get better.

I liked the movie because you really weren't given a lot of clues as to what was really going on with the research and the disbodied head. It was almost funny to see that goofy looking head--reminded me of Golem. But even though there was no Mothman, or other mythological critter I was still intrigued and until we actually saw the lab, I wasn't quite sure what was really going on.

I loved the very ending--the way the backgrounds moved from very cold and dark to warm, bright and sunny. Just what Scully wanted. The rowboat even came from an XFiles episode. The fact that Mulder was rowing a boat a long way from land seemed to say that they were in it together for the long haul.

I just hope the "wave" wasn't telling us good-by for good!
