STardoe, wearing a white curly wig and a judge's robe, bangs her gavel vigorously on the desk.

"Since the Judge was killed yesterday by a stray bullet," she stops and glares at KS who is trying to shrink down in her seat, "The Mayor of Shipperville," she nods towards the Mayor who stands up and gives a parade wave, "has appointed me as the Judge of this court. All rise."

Everyone stands up. Stardoe experiments with having the people in the front rise up first and sit down as the back starts to rise, in a type of wave motion. Finally, she gets down to business. She turns and faces the jury. "Remember, you will decide if the defendent is guilty based only on the facts of this case."

Kande, in the front of the jury box, looks bored. Bubba had forgotten her extensive caffeine needs and had made decaf coffee this morning. She doesn't know how she's going to survive until noon. In Shipperville, you have to appear in court on the same day that you receive your jury duty letter. And she's not sure if Stardoe is going to allow potty breaks. Her reverie is broken when the defendent and the victim are brought out with their lawyers.

"My sister is a defendent? Goodie, I'll get out of jury duty then, I'm sure Stardoe will excuse me since we're siblings." She leans back with her hands behind her head, smiling widely at her Sis. This will be good.

CW is the victim. Both hands are in bandages. Her lawyer is the mystery man she's been seen hanging out with recently. He strides in front of the jury.

"How many of you here are Democrats?" All hands but two go up. Mellodrone and Det are quickly dismissed from jury duty.

"Crapola," Kande thinks to herself. "The one time I might have considered becoming Republican for a minute."

Bubba goes up to the jury box. He's KS's lawyer. He took a correspondence course on being a lawyer and has a certificate of completion nailed to the wall of his room beneath the stairs. He starts gesturing wildly. Everyone in the jury box gets out their "Guide to Alien Sign Language" guides.

Kande reads out loud. "Do we think being an assassin is wrong? Of course we do! What kind of question is that?" Kande looks behind her at the other jurors. Everyone else is unsmiling and shaking their heads 'no.' "Are you guys nuts? Killing is wrong!"

Bubba dismisses the rest of the jurors. Kande is the only one left in the box. "What?! I can't be the only juror!"

Stardoe smiles at her, her wig slightly askew. "Of course you can, Kande! We trust your judgement, don't we guys?" Everyone shakes their heads yes with the exception of KS, who is making slashing motions across her throat and glaring at Kande. Her braces catch the light and gleam evilly.

-KS, who's never been called to jury duty but is sure this is how you get picked.
