Sarinor flew on into the darkness, visibly slowing as his wings tired from a long day's hard flight. Thura had been told to seek her fellow refugees in the West. Now, after hours of endless flying, Thura spotted a red glow in the distance. Head for that glow, dear one. Sarinor, by now familiar with his lifemate's perpetual sadness, did not disturb her with any comment, but simply angled off toward the light. Within moments, they were close enough to see a large campfire below. At Thura's request, Sarinor circled lower. Her breath caught as she recognized a gold flit on the shoulder of one of the two girls there. She supposed some natives might have them by now, but hers had not risen in all of this time, so she doubted any others had either. Therefore, this one at least must be from the Lost Planet. Down, my love...I think she is from 'home' too.

To Marthur, she added aloud, "See, Marthur? That girl has a gold flit...she must be from Pern!"

"How do you know?" he asked. He had a few flits of his own, but his had only hatched after landing here, so he didn't realize anything was unusual about them.

"Have your flits flown at all? Mine haven't since they arrived here...and the oldest flew within a month after he hatched! I don't think any of them have since we arrived here...probably too stressed out by the shock of the disaster and the move. I thought maybe yours might, since they weren't there, but mine must have told them. I have the feeling you have the only flits hatched here. Well, my brown too, of course."

"It sounds like you know a lot about them. But then, you have five, and yours are all much older than mine. So, we go down to see, then? Maybe she is someone you know."

Thura had been about to comment on the unlikelihood of that, but at that point Sarinor set down with a slight bump, and she caught her breath. The girl DID look familiar, all right...but she couldn't be sure...

She dismounted quickly, as usual finding it difficult to do very gracefully with her protruding tummy, and motioned for her brother to follow. She stepped up to the girl with the gold flit, scrutinizing her face. "I...I'm sorry...I don't mean to be rude...but I think I might have seen you before...on the Beach back home...or what used to be home. Are...aren't you one of Sira's friends?"
