I'm a hardcore romantic at times, and when that happened and he started crying and kissing her hands, I just broke out in tears yelling. "TAKE THAT BUFFY, HE LOVES DARLA, ONLY DARLA, YOU VAMPANT SPIKE-LOVING WHORE!!"

Then she staked herself. I saw no spoilers, so that completely shocked me. I half-way expected it though, because they were dropping hints the whole end of the ep. I have to say that though I wasn't happy to see her go-- best vampire character aside from the original Spike that Joss ever created --I was glad that the end came at her own hands. If Angel had done it, I would have bitched for weeks.

The redemptionistas in this case, I believe, have no hold over anything here. They say that Spike has reformed? Hah! According to that wonderful, emotional and deep episode, Darla only repented because of her soul. She wasn't carelessly chipped and yelling about how wanting to boink some human made her good and holy.

Another positive point here, was that the A/Da wasn't trashed. If anything, it was made deeper, and I think Angel will have a much higher opinion about Darla now after what she's done. TAKE THAT BUFFY! Darla gave Angel something you never could, a son! HA! They also connect on that level of two people who can TRULY UNDERSTAND each other's pain. NOT LIKE YOU, YOU TRAMPING BITCH!

I liked her speech in the end, the way Angel broke down and kissed her hands. I'd choose Darla over Buffy any day. She's still a mean-ass vampire, and she chose her fate and saw it through with the courage of any mother. She gave that child the greatest sacrifice that she could, and we can't blame her for that. And we can't fault her for who she is. She always wanted to love something in her life, truly love it, and for it to love her back. That child was that thing-- and in effect, by parallel, Angel.
