Exactly Elara-- this was the only reason that I wasn't able to mourn just for the character, but also, in some ways, for the show.

But I was a wreck last night, deciding to myself that it was finally over, that I could never watch an episode of either series again, that Joss had finally *done it*. It's so bloody sad that the stupid Spike-situation has made me unable to appreciate *valid* character developments and even deaths, especially with characters who I deeply love.

I'll miss Darla so incredibly much. She was the one who kept me sane in the two (has it been two?) weeks since OMWF, and when I say to myself 'Darla staked herself after weepingly apologizing for all her sins' it's so easy to go absolutely insane at what appears to be Joss' latest burst of revisionism crap. But when I look closer I realize that this was... ok, realistic. It was a fitting end, I suppose.

Except I'm really still too fresh into the mourning period to say that right now.

The two things that make Darla's death extra painful are:

1) I was in love with character, as I know many of us here were, as she seemed at times to be the only vampire who still had it all there

and

2) As beautiful as her death was, the vultures have already grabbed ahold of it as further proof that vampires can be good and further proof that Spike should be with Buffy (how the hell they draw that conclusion from the *specific circumstances* of Darla's death is beyond me, but they have... check JM.com if you're feeling extra-strong) And that, obviously, sucks.

But I'm still feeling better now that I was last night-- I think it helps that I've read what other people think, lol.
