Howdy-do, Lallyland!

The world's turned upside down. I'm fairly numb at the moment and it's been a bit stressful for the last several days, and then I saw the news. Sort of kicked me into "There, but for the Grace of God, go I."

Do you know how many childrens' books I have? I absolutely LOVE well-illustrated childrens' books and have amassed about 1082, I think, not counting the little books for babies. I only have 97 of those. That may be a tiny bit exaggerated, ahem... but not much. I have read them all.....ALL...of them, 20 times each over this past week. What were they thinking when they sent a 5 year old home with instructions for parents (and grandparents) to keep him calm and quiet. No running, hopping, jumping, dancing, skipping, jumping on couches.... all those things that happen in the life of a child in an hour? Some one who doesn't have any children. That's the only sort of idiot who would expect a 5 year old to sit quietly, that's who. For two weeks AT LEAST. Usually, I toss those instructions in the fire and go with my gut, but this time I've actually tried to follow instructions. That's a first, as my family doc will tell you.

I stopped having wild adherence to doctors' instructions when I brought my first tiny baby in for a rash... because that's what you're supposed to do.. three times in three months and the diagnosis was the same each time. Viral exanthum. After time number three, I asked our doc if that's what the medical community calls "who the hell knows, it's normal, and viral exanthum sounds clinical." he said "Yup." I said, well..... I'll see you for her check ups. Maybe. He knew me pretty well and had the presence of mind to laugh. After giving birth the first time, I was instructed to refrain for any sexual activity for two weeks. My doc's wife was a good friend of mine and I told her what my instructions were and she did a tea-out-the-nose snort and said, "We waited about 6 hours." Into the garbage went the written stuff. I was fine, my baby was fine, and I managed to raise all our kids without killing them. I don't count the times I had visions of choking my daughters here and there for 22 years. They're still alive and I'm not in prison. Works for me.

I laugh at myself, but I DID know when we needed more than Mama's concoctions. I don't want you to wonder if you should call child services and turn me in... there's a statute of limitations and I dodged the bullet.

I DID however, call child services on myself once. That's a story for another time.

I haven;t had time to prepare any quotes ahead of time, so this is an Open a Book and Point a Finger week. This is honestly what I opened the book and stuck my finger on. I thought it was meant to be.

The following quote is from 'Written in my Own Heart's Blood,' by Diana Gabaldon, chapter71, "Folie A Trois." Copyright © 2014, by Diana Gabaldon. All rights reserved.

"You'd better go," he said, looking me in the eye and speaking in a low voice. "You must not be found alone with me."

"Grannie?" Germaine pushed back the tent flap, red as a beet under his shaggy bangs. "Grannie! Come quick! Papa says Grand-pere wants you!"

He disappeared and I hastily snatched up my equipment , bedizening myself with bags and boxes. I made for the tent flap, but paused for an instant, turning to John.

"I should have asked-- does he care for YOU?" I said.

He shut his good eye and his lips compressed for a moment.

"I hope not," he said.

[> [> I've never been able to wrap my brain around Jamie's beating of LJG. All thought Jamie dead. If anything, why doesn't Jamie even mention that John saved Claire, Marsali, Fergus and family? That was pretty noble of him, in my opinion. I'm still annoyed at Jamie's fixation on the coitus and nothing else. -- Betsy BS, Sun, February 27 2022, 20:16:02
