Actually what I thought when you mentioned that is just that the head of the screw is stripped, not allowing a socket to fit on to tighten it. If this is the case, grab a smaller size socket (one size smaller should do), and gently tap it until it partially fits the stripped head (basically giving it a new shape), you should be able at the least remove the screw with this (I wouldn't recommend trying to tighten it) and then find one at your local home depot/hardware store that should fit ok :)
